Tips to get the optimal New Bern vacation rental experience:

Finding the best value:

  • Summertime is high season in the New Bern area. To get the best value, consider shifting your group's vacation to the Spring or Fall shoulder seasons. May, September, and October offer warm weather, less crowded beaches, and reduced traffic. Many vacationers use this method to reserve larger homes, or to reserve an oceanfront vacation rental that would otherwise be unaffordable during June, July, and August. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a New Bern vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday near the ocean? Thanksgiving and Christmas are great times to gather with family and friends at your favorite beach.
  • Book your vacation home as early as possible. Rental schedules generally become available a year in advance (or in September just after Summer ends). Many groups book their Summer vacations during Thanksgiving and Christmas get-togethers. Book before these holidays for best selection.
  • Veterans and Active Duty Military members may be qualified for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective vacation rental company or host if your family qualifies for a discount.
  • Booking websites often offer renters an option to add trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which commonly costs anywhere between 1% - 5% of the base stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for missed vacation time as a result of personal medical-related catastrophes or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional evacuation costs, such as an unanticipated hotel overnight or extra gasoline expenses. Trip insurance can be a a life-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your host for specifics.
  • Many property management companies supply New Bern area visitors guide magazines which include money-saving deals, either offered independently by local companies, or by way of a relationship between the property management company and the business itself. You can also find New Bern visitors guide and coupon books at local gas stations and shopping centers.

How to choose the best rental home:

  • Choose your dates and budget.
  • Decide how many bedrooms and what type of bedroom configuration your family requires. Seas The Day, Oceanfront House in Pine Knoll Shores, NC! has 4 bedrooms and 4 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our rental home search.
  • Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed counts is generally accessible on booking websites. If you don't see them listed, reach out to the property management company before you book the home. Remember that most listings specify maximum guest capacity, which oftentimes includes pull-out couches and bunk beds. You will need to work out which bed configuration is best for your family.
  • Does your group require unique amenities? Most rental websites include search filters with amenity lists. Amenity filters help you quickly remove less-optimal properties.
  • Proper accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for guests that require the use of a wheelchair. Make certain to ask about specialized equipment and wheel chair accessibility.
  • Traveling with pets? Although a number of vacation homes allow pets or animals, guidelines and costs vary per property. Allowable pet type, breed, and size are often limited. Remember to ask the property manager before booking, and study your rental agreement! Extra fees or costs could be applied to your agreement.

More tips for your stay:

  • Be sure you get the host's contact number and arrival/departure procedures for your rental. Store the host's contact information in your smartphone.
  • During arrival, record any damages to the rental property and immediately alert the property manager. Record all coorespondence.
  • Hosts are there to help! Feel free to ask any questions before, during, or after your stay.
  • Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking policies can make a stay more pleasurable. You'll magnify your chance to make local friends, and resident neighbors are a fantastic source for finding the best local scenic spots.
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Locals can usually help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to charter a fishing boat, have a great night out, or the best spots for crabbing?
  • Lock your rental property while you're gone! Don't let crooks spoil your trip.
  • Don't leave anything behind! Before you drive away, walk through the rental to confirm you've collected all of your things. Remember to check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden treasure. Clean the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Walk through the property one final time and scan for any damage. We recommend walking through with the property manager whenever possible. If the property manager isn't available, take photos of the rental to record its condition at check-out.
  • Did you have a fantastic time? Most rental managers make it easy for clients to provide feedback. If your rental and/or property manager was wonderful, they always love to hear your praise. If anything was imperfect and they failed to fix it within reason, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make a note as part of your review.
