How to get the best Emerald Isle vacation rental experience:

Getting the most from your budget:

  • In the New Bern area, The sooner your group can book a vacation home, the easier your search will be. The best properties are reserved very early. Reserving your rental home 6-12 months before your vacation is recommended. Holiday gatherings are excellent times to search for and book your rental.
  • To book the largest rental for your budget, we suggest reserving in Fall or Spring. You'll enjoy lower rental rates, better selection, beautiful weather and the absence of large crowds at popular attractions and restaurants. Many vacationers use this strategy to find larger homes within budget, or to book an oceanfront vacation rental that would otherwise be unavailable during the high season.
  • Active Duty and veterans of the US Armed forces may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property manager or host if your vacationing group qualifies for a price reduction or discount.
  • Property managers often offer customers an option to buy trip insurance. Trip insurance, which commonly will cost you anywhere between 1% - 5% of the base reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any days missed as a result of medical-related catastrophes or weather, as well as evacuation costs or charges, such as an unanticipated hotel or extra fuel expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a welcome relief if the unforeseen happens. Ask your host for specifics.
  • Many management companies supply New Bern area travel guides which will include special deals, either offered independently by local businesses, or through a relationship between the property management company and the business itself. You can also find New Bern area magazine and coupon books at local gas stations and shopping centers.

How to select the perfect rental in Emerald Isle:

  • Choose vacation week and budget.
  • Decide how many beds and the configuration you need. Beautiful views from our 2nd row home with updates has 4 bedrooms and 4 bathrooms.
  • Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed counts & types is usually available online. If not, contact the property management company before you book your home. Remember that most properties list the maximum guest capacity, which typically includes pull-out couches.
  • If your group is bringing pets, search for a rental that allows animals. Request specifics on breed, weight, and type restrictions. Note that some hosts charge additional pet fees.
  • Visiting for a single event? If so, use a map search to locate nearby rentals.
  • Proper accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for guests with disabilities. Confirm all necessary amenities are available before reserving a rental

More considerations for your visit:

  • Be sure you get the host's phone number and entry/exit procedures for your . Put the manager's contact information in your smartphone and wallet.
  • Ask questions. You may want instructions for a fireplace, A/V setup or appliance. Contact your property manager. They are there to help! A brief text message can prevent a lot of issues.
  • Lock your rental property while you are out! Don't let burglars spoil your vacation.
  • During arrival, note any issues with the property and immediately contact the owner. Keep records of all coorespondence.
  • Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like disrespectful vacationers disrupting your home life. Practice the golden rule for best judgement. Happy residents may even recommend great restaurants and places you would have never otherwise known about!
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local! Neighbors can frequently help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to book the best tours, have a great night out, or the best spots for fishing?
  • Don't leave anything behind! Before departing, take a walk through the property to make sure you've collected all of your things. Re-check dressers, closets, and bathrooms for hidden treasure. Clean out the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Inspect the property a final time and look for damages to contents or the property itself. We suggest walking through with the property manager whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the host is not available, ensure that you take video and pictures of the rental to record its condition at check-out.
  • Did your group have a terrific stay? Many rental management companies make it easy for clients to provide reviews. If your rental property and/or host was fantastic, they would love to hear about it. If anything was amiss and they failed to fix it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make a note as part of your comments.
