Tricks and tips to get the perfect rental home experience:

Finding your best deal:

  • Summer is high season in the New Bern area. To get the best rental home within your budget, we suggest reserving in the Fall or Spring shoulder seasons. You'll benefit from lower rates, greater selection, warm weather and the absence of giant crowds at New Bern restaurants, beaches, and activities. Many vacationers use this method to reserve larger homes, or to book an oceanfront rental that would otherwise be unavailable or unaffordable during the high season.
  • Reserve your vacation rental as soon as possible. Rental schedules generally become available a year in advance (or in September just after the Summer season ends). Many families book their Summer rentals during Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years Eve gatherings. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
  • Veterans and Active Duty Military members may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property owner if your family qualifies for a special promotion or discount.
  • Property management companies frequently offer guests an option to buy vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which generally costs between 1% - 5% of the base booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed days as a result of personal medical-related catastrophes or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation charges, such as an unexpected hotel overnight or extra fuel expenses. Trip insurance can be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen happens. Ask your property manager for program terms and fees.
  • Find a copy of your local visitors guide when you check-in. If your rental home doesn't have one, you can find them at local shops and fuel stations. In addition to great articles, visitor guides have discounts for nearby tours, shops, and attractions.

How to choose the perfect rental home in the New Bern area:

  • Choose vacation dates and spending budget.
  • Decide how many beds and the bed configuration your family needs. Shearwater-Pet Friendly, Ocean Front House has 4 bedrooms and 5 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our New Bern rentals search.
  • Precise details about bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is normally accessible on booking websites. Otherwise, reach out to the property owner before you book the property. Note that most property listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which typically includes sofa beds in living rooms. You'll need to work out what is optimal for your vacation.
  • Visiting for a single attraction? If so, use a map search to locate nearby properties.
  • Appropriate accessibility can make or break a vacation for guests with disabilities. Make certain to ask about specialized equipment and wheel chair accessibility.
  • If your group is vacationing with pets, search for a pet-friendly property. Make sure to ask for details on breed, size, and type requirements. Note that some property owners require additional pet deposits and fees.

More tips for your visit:

  • We recommend storing the manager's information in your smartphone.
  • During arrival, make note of any damages to the rental property and immediately alert the owner. Keep records of all correspondence in case a dispute arises.
  • Ask questions. You may want instructions for a garage door opener, A/V setup or appliance. Contact your owner. They are there to help! A brief text message can prevent many concerns.
  • Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like loud visitors bothering your peace. Apply the golden rule for common sense. Happy residents may even recommend great restaurants and scenic spots you would've never otherwise known about!
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Residents can typically help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to spend a rainy day, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for fine dining?
  • Lock your rental property while you are away! Don't let burglars spoil your trip.
  • Don't leave anything behind! Before you drive away, walk through the rental property to reconfirm you've collected all personal items. Re-check dressers, closets, and bathrooms for hidden items. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Document the condition of the property at check-out. We recommend taking a video during your final walk-through.
  • After your trip, leave feedback! Hosts rely on good reviews to stimulate future reservations. They'll be much obliged for your feedback. Alternatively, if something wasn't right, other vacationing families will be thankful you shared your experience and help them have the best future vacation. Please be fair with your feedback If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the manager had any control over the issue, and if so, whether they responded quickly to remedy it.
