Booking the best vacation home experience:
Cost saving strategies:
- Summer months are high season in Emerald Isle. Book your rental property in Fall or Spring months to enjoy warm weather while saving money and avoiding crowds. Many vacationers use this strategy to reserve larger homes, or to book an oceanfront rental that would otherwise be unavailable or unaffordable during the Summer. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a New Bern vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday near the ocean? Christmas, Thanksgiving, and New Years Eve are great times to gather with family and friends at the beach.
- In the New Bern area, The earlier your group can reserve a vacation home, the better your selection will be. The best properties are booked very early. Reserving your vacation rental six to twelve months before your travel dates is recommended. Christmas, Thanksgiving and New Years Eve are excellent times to plan and reserve your vacation rental.
- Hosts sometimes offer discounts for veterans and active duty military. Ask your property manager if rate reductions are available for your group.
- Property management companies often offer renters an option to buy vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which generally will cost you anywhere between 1% - 5% of the base booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for missed vacation time as a result of medical-related emergencies or weather, as well as evacuation costs, such as an unexpected hotel or additional gas expenses. Trip insurance might be a a life-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your host for program terms and fees.
- Often, property management companies supply New Bern area visitor guides which often include money-saving deals, either offered directly by local businesses, or by way of a relationship between the management company and the business itself. You can also find New Bern area magazine and coupon books at local shops and grocery stores.

- Are you visiting for a specific event or attraction? Use a map search to find nearby rentals.
- Suitable accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for guests that require the use of a wheelchair. .
- If your group is vacationing with pets, search for a pet-friendly rental. Make sure to ask for specifics on breed, size, and type requirements. Note that some hosts charge additional pet fees.
Tips for a wonderful stay:
- Add the owner's phone number to your smartphone. Take a copy of arrival/departure procedures.
- To ensure that no damages are linked to your stay, record any problem areas when you arrive. Make contact with the rental manager right away to report your findings. If there is a dispute about legal responsibility later, having the recorded problems and contact attempts will be useful.
- Ask questions. You may need instructions for a hot tub, stereo or coffee maker. Contact your property manager. They are there to help! A brief call can prevent many issues.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like unpleasant visitors bothering your peaceful home life. Employ the golden rule for common sense. If they like you, locals might even recommend great restaurants and attractions you would've not otherwise known!
- Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Locals can often help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to see a beautiful sunrise or sunset, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for shopping?
- Ensure you protect the property owner (and your things!) by keeping the rental locked up while you are gone, just like you would back home.
- When it's time to leave, take a walk-through to confirm you didn't leave anything behind. Remember to check dressers, closets, and bathrooms for hidden belongings. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Inspect the property a final time and look for damage. We recommend walking through with the property manager whenever you can. If the host is not available, take photographs of the rental to record its condition at check-out.
- Leave feedback! Property managers rely on great reviews to drive more reservations. They'll be thankful for your review. Alternatively, if something went wrong, other families will appreciate that you share your experience find their best vacation home. Remember to be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the host had any control over the issue, and if so, whether they responded quickly to solve it.
