Tricks and tips to get the perfect rental experience:

How to get the best value:

  • To book the best rental within your budget, we recommend reserving in the Fall or Spring shoulder seasons. You'll enjoy lower rates, better selection, beautiful weather and the absence of large crowds at New Bern restaurants, tours, and activities. Many vacationers use this strategy to find larger homes within budget, or to book a beach front rental that would otherwise be unavailable during the Summer. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a New Bern vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday on the coast? Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years are great times to gather with family and friends at the beach.
  • The earlier you can book a rental home, the better your selection will be. The most desirable rental properties are reserved very early. Reserving your rental home six to twelve months before your travel dates is recommended. Winter holidays are excellent times to search for and book your vacation home.
  • Some property managers offer discounts for veterans and active duty military. Check with your property manager to see if discounts are available for your family before you book.
  • Booking websites typically offer customers an option to buy trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which commonly will cost between 1% - 5% of the stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for missed trip time as a result of personal medical-related emergencies or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional evacuation charges, such as an unexpected hotel overnight or additional gasoline expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a bank account-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your host for details.
  • Look for your local New Bern visitors guide upon checking in. If your rental home doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local grocery stores and visitor centers. In addition to great local articles, visitor guides have coupons for local attractions, tours, restaurants, and shops.

Planning and picking a perfectvacation home:

  • Choose a designated group leader, select your vacation week, and choose a max budget.
  • Decide how many bedrooms and what type of bedroom configuration your group needs. Point Emerald A-208, Oceanfront Condo in Emerald Isle, NC! has 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our rentals search.
  • Specific details about bedrooms and bed types is almost always available online. If you don't see them listed, email the host before you book your home. Note that most properties list the maximum guest capacity, which usually includes sofa beds in living rooms.
  • Visiting for a specific event or attraction? If so, use a map search to browse nearby properties.
  • Proper accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for those with limited mobility. Make certain to ask about wheel chair accessibility, pool lifts and specialized equipment needs.
  • If your group is traveling with pets, you must reserve a property that allows animals. Get information on breed, weight, and type requirements. Note that some property owners require additional pet deposits and fees.

Have a great stay:

  • Be sure you get the owner's phone number and arrival/departure procedures for your rental. We recommend storing the manager's contact information in your smartphone and wallet.
  • To make sure no damages are linked to your family's visit, make a record of any problem areas upon your arrival. E-mail the property manager immediately to document any pre-existing damages. If there is a dispute, having a record of problems and contact attempts will be valuable.
  • Ask questions. You may want instructions for a garage door opener, television set or WIFI setup. Contact your owner. They are there to help! A brief call prevents lots of problems.
  • Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like obnoxious vacationers bothering your peaceful home. Practice the golden rule for common sense. If they like you, locals might even recommend great restaurants and attractions you would've not otherwise known about!
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local! Residents can frequently help. Who better to ask where to book the best tours, have a great night out, or the best spots for shopping?
  • Lock your rental while you're out and about. Protect your property!
  • Don't leave anything behind! Just before departing, take a walk through the rental property to reconfirm you've collected everything. Make sure to check closets, dressers, garages, and bathrooms for hidden treasure. Clean the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Record a video to document the condition of the property.
  • Did your family have a excellent stay? Many rental managers make it easy for vacationers to provide comments. If your rental property and/or property manager was great, they would love to hear it. If anything was imperfect and they failed to address it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make it a point as part of your feedback.
