Tips and Tricks to get the perfect New Bern rental experience:
When to book & When to go:
- Reserve your vacation home as early as possible. Rental schedules often open twelve months in advance (or in September just after Summertime ends). Many families book their Summer vacation rentals during Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years Eve gatherings. Book before these holidays for best selection.
- June, July, and August are the most expensive months in the New Bern area. To book the best rental home for your budget, we strongly suggest booking in Spring or Fall. You'll enjoy lower rental rates, greater selection, warm weather and the absence of giant crowds at New Bern restaurants, beaches, and activities. Many vacationers use this strategy to find larger homes within budget, or to book a beach front vacation rental that would otherwise be unavailable during June, July, and August.
- Some hosts offer discounts for active duty military and veterans. Remember to ask your property manager if special offers are available for your group.
- Management companies and individual rental owners typically offer renters an option to buy vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which normally costs 1% - 5% of the stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed trip time as a result of medical-related emergencies or weather, as well as ensuing additional evacuation costs or charges, such as an unanticipated hotel stay or extra fuel expenses. Trip insurance can be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask the property owner for additional information.
- Find a copy of your local New Bern visitors guide upon checking in. If your rental property doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local shops and visitor centers. In addition to great articles, visitors guides contain offers and deals for nearby tours, shops, and attractions.
Finding the best rental home:
- Start by choosing potential vacation weeks and a budget.
- Note the number bedrooms and the configuration your group requires. Family affordable & close enough to all the fun stuff! has 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our rentals search.
- Precise details about bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is commonly accessible online. If they are not listed, email the host before reserving your rental. Remember that most listings specify maximum guest capacity, which usually includes pull out couches in living rooms. You'll need to determine what configuration is optimal for your vacation group.
- If your family is traveling with pets, you'll need to search for a pet-friendly property. Make sure to ask for information on breed, weight, and type requirements. Often, property managers require additional pet deposits and fees.
- Does your group require specific amenities? Most rental websites include search filters for amenities. Amenity filters help you quickly remove less-optimal properties.
- Appropriate accessibility can make or break a vacation for those with limited mobility. Confirm all required amenities are included before booking
Additional considerations:
- Review arrival and departure procedures before leaving home. Add a note with the instructions to your smartphone, and take a printed copy.
- Ask questions. You may want instructions for a fireplace, elevator or washer/dryer. Contact your owner. They are there to help! A brief phone call prevents a lot of concerns.
- Lock your rental home while you are out. Protect your property!
- To make sure damages aren't attributed to your stay, make a record of any problem areas during check in. Speak to the rental manager immediately to document your findings. If there is a dispute, having the recorded issues and contact attempts will be valuable.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like loud vacationers disrupting your peace. Use the golden rule for common sense. Happy residents may even recommend great local food and places you would have never otherwise known about!
- Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Residents can frequently help. Who better to ask where to find the best bike paths, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for shopping?
- Re-check every room of the rental property to confirm that you've packed all belongings on check-out day. Re-check closets, dressers, garages, and bathrooms for hidden treasure. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Go through the property a final time and look for any damage. We recommend walking through with the host whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the manager is not available, ensure that you take video of the rental to record its condition.
- Did your family have a wonderful vacation? Many rental managers make it easy for vacationers to provide feedback. If your rental and/or property manager was wonderful, they would love to hear about it. If anything was inoperable and they failed to fix it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make it a point as part of your feedback.
