Strategies to get the perfect New Bern vacation property experience:

Finding the best rental value:

  • Book your rental as early as possible. Rental schedules generally become available 12 months in advance (or in September just after the Summer season ends). Many groups reserve their Summer vacations during holiday gatherings. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
  • June, July, and August are the most expensive months in coastal NC. To find the best value, consider changing your family's New Bern vacation to the Spring or Fall months. May, September, and October offer excellent temperatures, , and greatly reduced traffic. Many vacationers use this strategy to reserve larger homes, or to reserve a beach front vacation rental that would otherwise be unavailable during the high season.
  • Property management companies sometimes offer discounts for active duty military and veterans. Remember to ask your host or property manager if special offers are available for your group before you book.
  • Management companies and individual rental owners typically offer their guests an option to obtain vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which will generally cost 1% - 5% of the base stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any missed days as a result of personal medical-related issues or weather, as well as hurricane evacuation charges, such as an unexpected hotel stay or extra fuel expenses. Trip insurance can be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your host for specifics.
  • Find a copy of your local New Bern visitors guide magazine upon arrival. If your rental property doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local grocery stores and visitor centers. In addition to great local information, visitors guides contain coupons for local accommodations, restaurants and tours.

Planning, picking, and booking your prefectrental home:

  • Choose vacation week and max budget.
  • Determine how many bedrooms and what type of bedroom configuration your group requires. Pelican Roost #1: 1 BR, 1 BA Condominium in Atlantic Beach, Sleeps 5 has 1 bedrooms and 1 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our New Bern rental home search.
  • Precise details about bedrooms and bed types is generally accessible on booking pages. Otherwise, email or call the property management company before you reserve the home. Note that most properties list maximum guest capacity, which oftentimes includes sofa beds and bunks. You'll need to work out what configuration is optimal for your group.
  • Do your family pets travel with you? Many vacation homes allow animals, but guidelines and restrictions apply. Type of pet, size and breeds may be limited. Remember to ask the property manager before booking, and study your rental agreement! Pet fees or costs might be applied to your invoice.
  • Visiting for a specific event or attraction? Use a map search to locate nearby rentals.
  • Appropriate accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for persons with disabilities. .

During your stay:

  • We recommend storing the host's information in your smartphone.
  • Hosts are available to help! Feel free to ask any questions during your stay.
  • Lock your rental while you're out. Protect the owner's property and your stuff!
  • Note any damages to the rental at check in, and immediately e-mail them to the property manager. We especially recommend e-mails and text messages, as they usually contain built-in time stamps that are useful if a dispute is filed.
  • Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like unpleasant visitors bothering your home life. Apply the golden rule for best judgement. Happy residents may even recommend great local food and attractions you would have not otherwise known about!
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Local residents can often help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to order the best nachos, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for bird watching?
  • Don't leave anything behind! Just before departing, walk through the rental property to reconfirm you've collected all personal belongings. Re-check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden treasure. Clean the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Record a video to document the condition of the property.
  • Did your group have a fantastic stay? Most rental managers make it easy for customers to provide reviews. If your property and/or property management company was great, they would love to hear it. If anything was defective and they failed to fix it within reason, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make it a point as part of your comments.
