Get the best of both worlds at "Sound 'n' Surf"! Our townhome in on the island in Atlantic Beach, NC, features unobstructed, spectacular water vistas of Bogue Sound and Morehead City and is a fast walk (less than 5 mins.) to the ocean and within mins. of boat launches, water sports, charters, tours, eateries, activities and more!

Cavernous, private upper front porch for calming, bird & wildlife watching, stargazing -- the Bogue Sound vistas change throughout the day and based on the tide...always elegant and no homes to block the view! Savor the enormous grass & sand fenced-in and private backyard for dogs or kids and upper and lower back decks with grille, privacy fence, outdoor shower, lights, hammock, kids' swing, and comfortable couches, tables & chairs.

The property has a huge concrete driveway with room for a boat and multiple cars. Lined with healthy palm trees, lawn, and garden, the driveway provides simple access to E Fort Macon Rd. Sidewalks in front of home are ideal for dog walking, cycling or running. The walk to the beach is really painless - and there are two different paths you can take. It usually takes us less than 5 mins. to walk to either access. Map with paths supplied of the neighborhood on refrigerator and in our welcome book.

Fun facts about the home:

Beach items/Etc.: Check out the main floor storage closet for body boards, shibumi shade for beach (a favorite of the locals), four beach chairs, skim board, sand toys, frisbee, spike ball set, bocce ball set, beach towels, and many other items for the home and beach (grille tools, additional kitchenware, even a sous vide)) that are yours to use during your stay.

Living Room: The living room has a 60 inch Intelligent TV, so you can sign in to your favorite streaming services and also access Live TV channels. We just added a cozy Papasan chair and another chair w/footrest in addition to the new couch and white leather recliners that you can turn to look out the window for the gorgeous waterfront vistas if you wish. Additionally, you will find many games, puzzles and books in the stand under the TV. Can’t finish reading? Take a book with you!

Living Room Closet: Extra chairs for the dining table, 2 high quality coleman cots with thick cushions to use for added comfort. The thick bed cushions (6 in) make the cots super comfortable. We have verified ourselves, as have our guests!

Indoor Dining Area: Table & chairs plus a "craft cabinet" with crayons, markers, tape, pens, pencils, paper, etc. and "treasure chest" of kids' jewelry and other assorted items kids may savor.

Towels / Linens / Extras: We have towels, washcloths, hand towels, cleaning products, first aid items and more in our linen closet on the top floor along with additional everything. Plenty of sharp knives and all the cooking tools you could need! The Cuisinart air fryer/toaster oven is easy to use. Coffee maker requires K-cups OR we have a universal K-cup insert for canned or bagged ground coffee (starter cups supplied). A modest drip maker is also in the kitchen cupboard with coffee and filters. The oven is electric. Plates and glasses, wine glasses, corkscrew, etc.etc We appreciate to prepare and entertain, so we try to have a as many serving options as possible.

Desks in each room, printer in the master. TVs in 2 of 3 bedrooms. Master BR has private bath.

The other two front bedrooms each have handsome and awe-inspiring vistas of Bogue Sound with their nearly expansive windows...although they both have shades/curtains for sleep! Attractions (way too many to list here, but here are a few we recommend):

— Public boat launch only 3 miles away, and the local fishing pier is about a half mile from the home (fee). There is also a complimentary fishing pier 10 mins. away in Beaufort (pronounced Bow-Fert around here) called the Newport River Pier and Boat Ramp. Lots of parking available.

— Only 1.2 miles from historic Fort Macon State Park and its public beach and nature trails; very clean bathhouse and facilities, concession stand in season and lifeguards during the summer. *** If you are arriving early for check in, this might be a place to go to relax after your journey ( :

— Only 1.3 miles from the Circle at Atlantic Beach, a central location with parking and bordered by eateries, nightlife, ice cream shop, beach stores, volleyball courts, soccer field, boardwalk and more. We have attended some of the concerts here, and it is always a blast with tons of activities, food and fun for kids and adults.

— Less than 2 miles away, you’ll find the Atlantic Beach Town Park on the ocean side of the island (across the street from a Food Lion grocery). The park features a complimentary skatepark, seasonal concession stand, picnic shelters, bathrooms and splashpad/fountain plus playground and mini golf (fee) and events for kids of all ages. They even show complimentary movies on certain evenings.

Events and activities are plentiful on the Crystal Coast. Take a quick drive to Emerald Isle and Swansboro or head across the AB/Morehead bridge to Morehead City or Beaufort for everything from shopping and eateries to fishing, boating and sightseeing charters. Finally, a trip here isn’t complete without a visit to the NC Aquarium at Pine Knoll Shores and their exceptional sea creatures, impressive nature trails and nature reserves. Whether you do it all or do nothing but relax is up to you – the island offers peaceful and solitude as well as excitement and fun beach vibes!

Our top Rental home tips and tricks:

How to get the best rental home value:

  • Summer is the most expensive season in coastal NC. Reserving a rental home in Fall or Spring months is an excellent way to save on your vacation. Rates are lower, and you'll find a better selection of desirable homes. Many vacationers use this method to reserve larger homes, or to reserve a beach front vacation rental that would otherwise be unavailable during the high season.
  • Book your vacation rental as soon as possible. Rental schedules usually become available 12 months in advance (or in September just after Summer ends). Many families reserve their Summer rental homes during holiday gatherings. Book before these holidays for best selection.
  • Property managers sometimes offer special rates for veterans and active duty military. Ask your host or property manager if discounts are available for your family before you book.
  • Booking websites frequently offer renters an option to buy vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which will generally cost anywhere between 1% - 5% of the stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for missed vacation time as a result of medical-related catastrophes or weather, as well as hurricane evacuation costs, such as an unanticipated hotel overnight or extra gasoline expenses. Trip insurance might be a a life-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your host for details.
  • Often, management companies supply New Bern area travel guides which often include money-saving offers, either offered directly by local companies, or by way of a relationship between the property management company and the business itself. You can also find visitors guide and coupon books at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers.

Finding the best vacation rental in the New Bern area:

  • Begin by choosing vacation dates and a maximum budget.
  • Note the number bedrooms and the configuration your group needs. Pet/family friendly island getaway in Atlantic Beach - great Sound view! has 3 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our New Bern rentals search.
  • Specific information regarding bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is almost always accessible on booking websites. If you don't see them listed, email the property manager before you book your rental. Note that most property listings specify the max. guest capacity, which often includes pull-out couches and bunk beds.
  • Does your group require particular amenities? Most rental search websites include amenity lists and search filters. Use these to your advantage to find the perfect rental home.
  • Suitable accessibility can make or break a vacation for those with limited mobility. Confirm all required amenities are available before booking
  • If your family is traveling with pets, you must reserve a pet-friendly rental. Ask for specifics on breed, weight, and type restrictions. Be aware that some hosts require additional pet deposits and fees.

More considerations:

  • Review arrival and departure procedures before leaving home. Take a printed copy, and add a note with the directions to your smartphone.
  • Document any issues with the rental during check in, and immediately contact the owner. We specifically recommend texts and e-mails, as they usually contain built-in time stamps that are helpful if damages are attributed to your stay.
  • Property managers are there to help! Feel free to ask questions before, during, or after your stay.
  • Respecting quiet hours and parking restrictions can make a stay significantly more pleasurable. Be a good neighbor. You will increase your chance to make local friends, and resident neighbors are often a fantastic source for finding the best local scenic spots.
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Local residents can typically help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to book the best tours, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for shopping?
  • Lock your rental while you're out. Protect the owner's property and your things!
  • Double-check the property to make sure that you've packed everything at departure. Make sure to check garages, decks, and cabinets for hidden items. Clean out the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Document the condition of the property at check-out. We recommend taking a video during your final walk-through.
  • Remember to leave a review! Property owners rely on great ratings to compel future reservations. They'll be grateful for your feedback. Alternatively, if something went wrong, other vacationing families will appreciate that you share your experience and help them have the best future vacation. Be fair with your review. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the manager had any control over the issue, and if so, whether they responded quickly to solve it.
