Strategies to get the perfect New Bern vacation property experience:

Getting the most from your vacation rental budget:

  • The sooner your group can reserve a vacation home, the easier your search will be. The best vacation rentals are reserved very early. Booking your vacation rental 6-12 months before your travel dates is recommended. Holiday gatherings are excellent times to search for and book your rental.
  • Summer time is high season in the New Bern area. Reserving a rental home in the Spring or Fall is our best tip for saving money on your vacation rental. Rates are lower, and you'll find a larger selection of acceptable properties. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a New Bern vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday near the ocean? Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years are great times to gather with loved ones at the beach.
  • Some hosts and property managers offer promotional rates for veterans and active duty military. Make sure to check with your property manager to see if discounts are available for your family.
  • Property managers often offer customers an option to buy vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which will generally cost 1% - 5% of the reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed days as a result of medical-related emergencies or weather disasters, as well as hurricane evacuation costs, such as an unanticipated hotel stay or additional gas expenses. Trip insurance might be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your host for more information.
  • Find a copy of your local New Bern visitors guide magazine when you check-in. If your rental property doesn't have one, you can find them at local shops and visitor centers. In addition to great local information, travel guides have discounts for local tours, shops, and attractions.

Choosing the best rental in the New Bern area:

  • To start, have your family choose a vacation week and a budget.
  • Decide how many bedrooms and what type of bedroom configuration your group requires. Oceanfront Townhome on semi private residential beach! has 2 bedrooms and 1 bathrooms.
  • Precise information about bedrooms and bed counts & types is normally available on booking websites. If you don't see them listed, call the host before booking your rental. Note that most property listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which usually includes sofa beds. You will need to work out what configuration is right for your trip.
  • If your group is traveling with pets, search for a pet-friendly vacation rental. Get information on breed, size, and type requirements. Some property managers require additional pet deposits and fees.
  • Are you looking for special amenities? Most websites include search filters for amenities. Amenity filters help you quickly remove less-optimal properties.
  • Proper accessibility can make or break a vacation for persons with disabilities. Make certain to inquire about wheel chair entry, pool lifts and specialized equipment needs.

Additional considerations:

  • Be sure you get the owner's phone number and check in/check out procedures for your rental.
  • Ask questions. You may need instructions for a garage door opener, elevator or thermostat. Contact your host. They are there to help! A brief text message prevents a lot of issues.
  • Protect the rental owner (and your things!) by locking and securing the home when you are out, just like you would back home.
  • To make certain damages aren't linked to your family's visit, record any problem areas when you arrive. Contact the property manager immediately to document any damages. If there is a dispute, having a record of issues and contact attempts will be useful.
  • Respecting quiet hours and parking rules can make a stay significantly more pleasurable. You'll enhance your chance to make local friends, and resident neighbors are a fantastic resource to find the best local beaches and restaurants.
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Local residents can often help. Who better to ask where to get the best seafood, have a great night out, or the best spots for crabbing?
  • Don't leave anything behind! Just before you drive away, walk through the rental property to confirm you've collected everything. Remember to check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden items. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Inspect the rental a final time and scan for any damage. We suggest inspecting the property with the property manager whenever possible. If the manager is not available, take pictures of the rental to record its condition.
  • Did your group have a wonderful stay? Most rental home management companies make it easy for travelers to provide reviews. If your rental property and/or host was terrific, they will likely appreciate your kind words. If anything was wrong and they failed to correct it within reason, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make a note as part of your comments.
