Tips for getting the perfect Emerald Isle rental experience:

Cost saving strategies:

  • June, July, and August are the most expensive months in coastal NC. Booking your New Bern vacation home in the Spring or Fall is our best tip for saving money on your rental home. Rental rates are lower, and you'll find a larger selection of acceptable homes. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a New Bern vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday on the coast? Thanksgiving and Christmas are great times to gather with loved ones at the beach.
  • The sooner your group can book, the better your selection will be. The best rental properties are reserved early. Reserving your vacation home 6-12 months before your vacation is recommended. Holiday gatherings are excellent times to search for and reserve your vacation home.
  • Hosts and Property managers sometimes offer rate reductions for veterans and active duty military. Make sure to check with your host or property manager to see if rate reductions are available for your group before you book.
  • Property management companies often offer guests an option to add vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which will generally cost anywhere between 1% - 5% of the stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for missed time as a result of personal medical-related emergencies or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional evacuation charges, such as an unexpected hotel or additional gasoline expenses. Trip insurance might be a a life-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask the property owner for specifics.
  • Often, rental management companies supply New Bern area visitor guide magazines which often include special offers, either offered independently by local companies, or through a relationship with the rental management company and the business itself. You can also find visitors guide and coupon books at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers.

How to choose the best rental home in the New Bern area:

  • Begin by choosing potential vacation weeks and a budget.
  • Note the number bedrooms and what type of bedroom configuration your family needs. OCEANFRONT HALF DUPLEX SLEEPS 9 w 4 BDRMS, 3 ARE OCEANVIEW! BEST PART OF E ISLE! has 4 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our New Bern rentals search.
  • Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed counts is usually available on booking pages. If you don't see them listed, email or call the property manager before reserving the vacation home. Note that most property listings specify maximum guest capacity, which usually includes pull-out couches and bunk beds. You'll need to work out what configuration is suitable for your vacation.
  • Are you looking for unique amenities? Most rental search websites include amenity lists and search filters.
  • Appropriate accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for those with limited mobility. Confirm all required amenities are available and included before booking
  • Are you traveling with furry, four-legged family members? Although a number of vacation homes allow pets or animals, guidelines and costs vary per property. Allowable pet type, breed, and size are often limited. Remember to ask the property manager before booking, and study your agreement! Additional fees or could be applied to your invoice.

More considerations for your visit:

  • Be sure you get the owner's contact number and arrival/departure procedures for your rental home.
  • At Check-in, make note of any damages to the rental property and immediately alert the property manager. Keep records of all coorespondence.
  • Ask questions. You may need instructions for a garage door opener, elevator or kitchen appliance. Contact your owner. They are there to help! A brief call prevents quite a few concerns.
  • Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like disagreeable vacationers disrupting your peaceful home. Practice the golden rule for best judgement. If they like you, locals might even recommend great local food and attractions you would've not otherwise known about!
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Locals can usually help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to get the best breakfast in town, have a great night out, or the best spots for BBQ?
  • Protect the rental owner (and your things!) by locking the property when you are away, just like you would back home.
  • When it's time to leave, take a final walk-through to make sure you haven't forget any personal items. Remember to check dressers, closets, and bathrooms for hidden items. Clean out the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Record a video to document the condition of the property.
  • Did you have a fantastic stay? Many vacation rental websites make it easy for clients to provide feedback. If your rental and/or property management company was great, they would love to hear about it. If anything was out of order and they failed to address it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make it a point as part of your feedback.
