Our top Indian Beach rental home tips and tricks:

How to get the best rental home value:

  • Reserve your vacation rental as soon as possible. Rental schedules often open a year in advance (or in September just after Summertime ends). Many groups book their Summer rental homes during Winter holiday gatherings. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
  • Booking a rental in Fall or Spring is one of our best tips for saving money on your vacation. Rates are lower, and you'll find a larger selection of acceptable homes. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a New Bern vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday near the ocean? Christmas, Thanksgiving, and New Years Eve are great times to gather with loved ones at the beach.
  • Property managers sometimes offer rate reductions for veterans. Remember to ask your host or property manager if special discounts are available for your group before you book.
  • Management companies and individual rental owners often offer renters an option to add vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which will generally cost 1% - 5% of the booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for missed days as a result of medical-related issues or weather disasters, as well as evacuation charges, such as an unexpected hotel overnight or extra gasoline expenses. Trip insurance can be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your host for more information.
  • Many management companies and vacation rental houses supply New Bern area travel guides which include coupons, either offered directly by local companies, or through a relationship between the property management company and the business itself. You can also find New Bern area magazine and coupon books at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers.

Narrow your Search:

  • Start by choosing potential vacation weeks and a maximum budget.
  • Note the number beds and the configuration your group requires. Oceanfront, ground-floor condo with 4 pools & 2 hot tubs - steps to the beach has 4 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms.
  • Specific information about bedrooms and bed types is commonly available on booking websites. If they are not listed, call the property manager before you reserve the home. Remember that most properties list the max. guest capacity, which often includes sofa beds in living rooms. You'll need to work out what is optimal for your vacation.
  • If your group is vacationing with pets, you must reserve a property that allows animals. Ask for details on breed, weight, and type requirements. Often, property managers require additional pet deposits and fees.
  • If there's a specific New Bern attraction you are enamored with, search for properties that are either near by, or those that cater to your needs.
  • Proper accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for the less-mobile. Remember to confirm all necessary amenities are available and included before booking

More tips for your visit:

  • Get the property manager's phone number and entry/exit procedures for your rental.
  • Ask questions. You may want instructions for a fireplace, stereo or kitchen appliance. Contact your owner. They are there to help! A brief telephone call can prevent a lot of concerns.
  • Lock your rental while you're away. Protect your property!
  • Upon arrival, note any damages to the property and immediately contact the property manager. Record all coorespondence.
  • Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like unpleasant visitors bothering your peace and quiet. Apply the golden rule for best judgement. If they like you, locals might even recommend great restaurants and places you would have never otherwise known!
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Neighbors can usually help. Who better to ask where to go for the best drinks, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for BBQ?
  • Don't leave anything behind! Before you drive away, take a walk through the rental to make sure you've collected all of your things. Remember to check closets, dressers, garages, and bathrooms for hidden items. Clean the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Document the condition of the property at check-out. We recommend taking a video during your final walk-through.
  • Leave a review! Property owners rely on good ratings to drive more reservations. They'll be much obliged for your review. Alternatively, if something went awry, other vacationing families will appreciate that you share your review and help them have the best future vacation. Be fair with your review. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the owner had any control over the issue, and if so, whether they responded expeditiously to solve it.
