Tips and Tricks for getting the perfect vacation home experience:
Get the best rental value:
- The sooner your group can book a vacation rental, the easier your search will be. The most desirable rental homes are booked very early. Reserving your vacation property six to twelve months before your travel dates is recommended. Christmas, Thanksgiving and New Years Eve are excellent times to search for and reserve your rental.
- June, July, and August are the most expensive months in the New Bern area. To get the best value, change your family's New Bern vacation to the Spring or Fall months. May, September, and even October offer excellent temperatures, fewer crowds, and reduced traffic. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a New Bern vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation on the coast? Christmas, Thanksgiving, and New Years Eve are great times to gather with loved ones at the beach.
- Some hosts and property managers offer special rates for veterans and active duty military. Remember to ask your property manager if special discounts are available for your group before you book.
- Booking websites usually offer renters an option to add vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which commonly costs between 1% - 5% of the reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for missed time as a result of personal medical-related issues or weather, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation charges, such as an unexpected hotel or extra gas expenses. Trip insurance can be a a life-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your host for details.
- Look for your local New Bern area magazine upon checking in. If your rental doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local grocery stores and visitor centers. In addition to great articles, visitors guides have money saving offers on local shops and restaurants.
Make a plan and choose the rightrental home:
- First and foremost, have your family choose a vacation week and a budget.
- Note the number beds and the configuration your family requires. Steps to Beach! 2BR/2BA duplex has 2 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our New Bern vacation rental search.
- Precise descriptions of bedrooms and bed counts is usually accessible on booking pages. If they are not listed, call the property management company before you reserve the vacation property. Note that most property listings specify maximum guest capacity, which usually includes sofa beds and bunks.
- Some rental properties allow pets, and others don't. Acceptable types of pet, size and breeds may be restricted, and additional costs may apply. Ask the owner about pet restrictions before booking.
- Is your group looking for special amenities? Most rental search websites include amenity lists and search filters. Filtering by amenity will allow you to quickly find the best rental home.
- Suitable accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for persons with a disability. Confirm all necessary amenities are available and included before reserving a rental.
More considerations for your visit:
- Review arrival and departure procedures before traveling. Take a printed copy, and add a note with the instructions to your smartphone.
- Property managers are great sources of help! Feel free to ask any questions before, during, or after your stay.
- Keep your rental home locked while you are away! Don't let crooks ruin your holiday.
- To ensure that no damages are linked to your family's visit, make a record of any problem areas during check in. Call the host immediately to record your findings. If there is a dispute, having the recorded concerns and contact attempts will be helpful.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like troublesome vacationers disrupting your peaceful home. Apply the golden rule for common sense. Happy residents may even recommend great restaurants and scenic spots you would have never otherwise known!
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Locals can usually help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to charter a fishing boat, have a great night out, or the best spots for fishing?
- Don't leave anything behind! Just before departing, walk through the property to confirm you've collected all of your things. Remember to check dressers, closets, and bathrooms for hidden belongings. Clean out the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Inspect the property one final time and scan for damages to contents or the property itself. We suggest walking through with the host whenever possible. If the host is not available, take photos and video of the rental to record its condition at check-out.
- Did your group have a terrific vacation? Many rental managers make it easy for vacationers to provide reviews. If your rental and/or property management company was terrific, they will likely appreciate your kind words. If anything was wrong and they failed to correct it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make a note as part of your comments.
