How to book the best New Bern rental home experience:

Get the most from your rental budget:

  • Book your vacation rental as early as possible. Rental schedules often become available twelve months in advance (or in September just after Summer ends). Many groups book their Summer rental homes during holiday get-togethers. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
  • Summer time is high season in the New Bern area. To get the best rental home within your budget, we highly recommend reserving in the Spring or Fall. You'll benefit from lower rental rates, better selection, beautiful weather and the absence of giant crowds at New Bern restaurants, tours, and activities.
  • Veterans and Active Duty Military members may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property owner if your family qualifies for a discount.
  • Booking websites typically offer their guests an option to purchase trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which generally will cost you anywhere between 1% - 5% of the base reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for missed days as a result of personal medical-related catastrophes or weather, as well as ensuing additional evacuation charges, such as an unanticipated hotel or additional gas expenses. Trip insurance can be a a life-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask the property owner for more information.
  • Find a copy of your local New Bern visitors guide magazine upon checking in. If your rental doesn't have one, you can find them at local shops and visitor centers. In addition to great information, visitors guides contain deals for local attractions, tours, restaurants, and shops.

Filter your search:

  • First and foremost, have your group decide on trip dates and a budget.
  • Note the number beds and the bed configuration you need. First-floor condo overlooking the courtyard with shared pools\/hot tub\/tennis has 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms.
  • Precise details about bedrooms and bed counts is regularly available on booking websites. Otherwise, email or call the host before booking the property. Note that most properties list the max. guest capacity, which typically includes pull-out couches.
  • If your group is bringing pets, you'll need to book a pet-friendly rental. Request information on breed, size, and type requirements. Some property managers charge pet deposits and fees.
  • Looking for unique amenities? Most rental websites include amenity lists and search filters. Filtering by amenity will allow you to quickly find your ideal rental home.
  • Appropriate accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for the less-mobile. Confirm all necessary amenities are available before reserving a rental.

Additional considerations:

  • Add the owner's contact information to your phone. Print and take a copy of arrival/departure procedures.
  • Property managers are great sources of help! Don't be shy to ask any questions before, during, or after your stay.
  • Lock your rental property while you are out! Don't let burglars spoil your family vacation.
  • During arrival, make note of any damages to the rental property and immediately contact the owner. Keep records of all correspondence just in case a dispute arises.
  • Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking rules can make a stay more pleasurable. You'll magnify your chance to make some new local friends, and resident neighbors are often an incredible resource to find the best local beaches and restaurants.
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local! Locals can usually point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to grab the best tacos, have a great night out, or the best spots for BBQ?
  • Re-check the rental property to confirm that you've packed everything at departure. Re-check garages, decks, and cabinets for hidden treasure. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Walk through the rental one final time and look for any damage. We suggest walking through with the host whenever possible. If the host isn't available, ensure that you take photographs of the property to record its condition.
  • Did your family have a terrific vacation? Most vacation rental websites make it easy for vacationers to provide feedback. If your rental and/or property management company was terrific, they would love to hear about it. If anything was inoperable and they failed to address it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make a note as part of your feedback.
