New Bern vacation rental booking tips and tricks:

Sticking to your rental home budget:

  • June, July, and August are the most expensive months in coastal NC. To get the largest vacation home within your budget, we recommend booking in Spring or Fall. You'll benefit from lower rates, better selection, gorgeous weather and the absence of large crowds at restaurants, beaches, and activities.
  • The sooner you can book a vacation home, the easier your search will be. The most desirable rental properties are booked early. Reserving your rental home six - twelve months before your vacation is recommended. Holiday gatherings are excellent times to search for and book your rental.
  • Some owners offer discounts or promotional rates for veterans and active duty military. Make sure to check with your host or property manager to see if special offers are available for your family.
  • Management companies and individual rental owners often offer renters an option to add trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which generally will cost you between 1% - 5% of the base reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed trip time as a result of medical-related issues or weather disasters, as well as evacuation costs or charges, such as an unexpected hotel stay or extra gas expenses. Trip insurance can be a a life-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your host for more information.
  • Find a copy of your local New Bern visitors guide when you check-in. If your rental property doesn't have one, you can find them at local grocery stores and visitor centers. In addition to great local information, travel guides contain money saving offers on nearby restaurants, attractions, and tours.

Selecting and booking your prefect New Bern rental:

  • Select a designated group leader, choose your dates, and select a max budget.
  • Note the number beds and the configuration your group needs. 10% OFF 2025 - First Floor Easy Beach access - Ocean Front Resort\n2 Bed 2 Bath has 2 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms.
  • Precise information about bedrooms and bed types is commonly available online. If not, call the host before you reserve the vacation home. Note that most listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which often includes sofa beds.
  • Looking for special amenities? Most rental websites include search filters with amenity lists. Use these filters to your advantage to find the perfect rental home.
  • Appropriate accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for persons with disabilities. Confirm all necessary amenities are available before reserving a rental
  • If your group is vacationing with pets, you'll need to search for a pet-friendly vacation rental. Request specifics on breed, size, and type requirements. Note that some property owners charge pet deposits and fees.

Advice for your stay:

  • Get the host's phone number and entry/exit procedures for your rental home. We recommend storing the manager's information in your smartphone and wallet.
  • To ensure that damages are not linked to your family's visit, inspect the rental for any problem areas during arrival. Call the property manager right away to report any damages. If there is a dispute about who is responsible, having the recorded concerns and contact attempts will be very helpful.
  • Ask questions. You may need instructions for a hot tub, A/V setup or washer/dryer. Contact your owner. They are there to help! A brief call can prevent many concerns.
  • Be respectful. Often, surrounding homes are occupied by local residents. Respecting late-night noise limits and parking regulations can make a stay significantly more pleasurable.
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local! Neighbors can usually help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to order delicious takeout, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for bird watching?
  • Ensure you protect the property owner (and your things!) by keeping the rental locked up while you are gone, just like you would back home.
  • Just prior to departing, complete a walk-through to make sure you have not leave anything behind. Re-check closets, dressers, garages, and bathrooms for hidden treasure. Clean out the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Inspect the rental a final time and scan for damage. We suggest inspecting the property with the property manager whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the property manager is not available, remember to take photos of the property to record its condition.
  • Did your group have a wonderful vacation? Most rental management companies make it easy for vacationers to provide comments. If your rental and/or property manager was fantastic, they always love to hear your praise. If anything was amiss and they failed to address it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make it a point as part of your feedback.
