Tips and Tricks for getting the perfect rental home experience:
Sticking to a spending budget:
- In the New Bern area, The earlier your group can book a rental home, the easier your search will be. The most desirable rental homes are reserved early. Booking your vacation rental 6-12 months before your vacation dates is recommended. Christmas, Thanksgiving and New Years Eve are excellent times to search for and book your vacation home.
- To get the most suitable vacation home for your budget, we recommend reserving in Spring or Fall. You'll benefit from lower rates, greater selection, warm weather and the absence of giant crowds at local restaurants, tours, and activities. Many vacationers use this strategy to reserve larger homes, or to reserve an oceanfront rental that would otherwise be unaffordable during the Summer months.
- Some property managers offer rate reductions for veterans. Make sure to check with your host or property manager to see if special offers are available for your family before you book.
- Property managers typically offer customers an option to add trip insurance. Trip insurance, which normally costs 1% - 5% of the stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for days missed as a result of medical-related emergencies or weather, as well as ensuing additional evacuation costs, such as an unanticipated hotel or additional fuel expenses. Trip insurance can be a a life-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask the property owner for specifics.
- Many rental management companies supply New Bern area travel guides which will include special deals, either offered directly by local businesses, or through a relationship with the management company and the business itself. You can also find New Bern visitors guide and coupon books at local gas stations and shopping centers.
Filter your rental search:
- Start by selecting a vacation week and a budget.
- Note the number beds and what type of bedroom configuration your group requires. 10% OFF 2025 - First Floor Easy Beach access - Ocean Front Resort\n2 Bed 2 Bath has 2 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our New Bern vacation rental search.
- Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed counts is usually available on booking websites. If they are not listed, reach out to the property manager before booking your home. Note that most properties list the max. guest capacity, which typically includes sofa beds and bunks.
- Do your family pets travel with you? Many vacation homes allow animals, but guidelines and restrictions apply. Type of pet, size and breeds may be limited. Make sure to ask before booking, and study your agreement! Additional pet fees or charges applied to your agreement.
- If there's a certain New Bern beach you are crazy about, browse rentals that are either near by, or those that cater to your desires.
- Appropriate accessibility can make or break a vacation for persons with disabilities. Confirm all necessary amenities are available and included before reserving a rental.
More considerations for your visit:
- Be sure you get the owner's phone number and entry/exit procedures for your rental home.
- Ask questions. You may want instructions for a fireplace, stereo or washer/dryer. Contact your host. They are there to help! A brief text message can prevent lots of problems.
- Lock your rental while you're away. Keep your property safe!
- Upon check-in, record any damages to the property and immediately contact the property manager. Keep records of all coorespondence.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like troublesome vacationers disrupting your peace and quiet. Apply the golden rule for common sense. If they like you, locals might even recommend great beaches and scenic spots you would have not otherwise known!
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Locals can often help. Who better to ask where to enjoy a steak with a view, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for BBQ?
- Re-check the vacation property to make sure that you've packed all of your belongings at check-out. Remember to check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden items. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Go through the property a final time and keep an eye out for damage. We advise walking through with the property manager whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the manager is not available, take photos of the rental to record its condition at check-out.
- Remember to leave feedback! Property managers rely on good feedback to compel future reservations. They'll be thankful for your feedback. Alternatively, if something wasn't right, other vacationing families will will be grateful for your experience and help them have the best future vacation. Please be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the host had any control over the issue, and if so, whether they responded reasonably to solve it.
