Tips and Tricks to get the optimal rental experience:
Money saving strategies:
- Book your vacation rental as early as possible. Rental schedules generally become available 12 months in advance (or in September just after Summer ends). Many families reserve their Summer vacations during holiday gatherings. Book before these holidays for best selection.
- To get the largest rental within your budget, we recommend booking in Spring or Fall. You'll enjoy lower rental rates, greater selection, warm weather and the absence of large crowds at local restaurants, tours, and activities.
- Hosts sometimes offer discounts for veterans. Ask your host or property manager if discounts are available for your family before you book.
- Booking websites often offer renters an option to obtain trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which usually will cost 1% - 5% of the base booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for missed time as a result of medical-related issues or weather, as well as evacuation costs, such as an unexpected hotel or extra gasoline expenses. Trip insurance can be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen happens. Ask your host for more information.
- Many rental management companies supply New Bern area visitors guide magazines that include special offers, either offered directly by local businesses, or through a relationship between the property management company and the business itself. You can also find New Bern visitors guide magazine and coupon books at local gas stations and shopping centers.
How to pick the best rental home:
- Select vacation week and spending budget.
- Decide how many bedrooms and what type of bedroom configuration your family requires. Ocean front Sands Villa, boat parking, indoor + outdoor pools has 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms.
- Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is often available on booking pages. If they are not listed, email the host before reserving the property. Remember that most listings specify the max. guest capacity, which typically includes sofa beds in living rooms. You'll need to establish what configuration is suitable for your vacation.
- Some rental properties allow pets, and others do not. Allowable types of pet, weight and breeds may be restricted, and additional fees may apply. Ask the property manager about allowable breeds and types before booking.
- If there's a certain New Bern beach you long to visit, browse properties that are either nearby, or those that cater especially to your desires.
- Suitable accessibility can make or break a vacation for those with limited mobility. Confirm all necessary amenities are available and included before booking.
More tips for your stay:
- Get the host's contact number and check in/check out procedures for your .
- Ask questions. You may need instructions for a fireplace, stereo or coffee maker. Contact your owner. They are there to help! A brief text message prevents quite a few difficulties.
- Ensure you protect the owner (and your stuff!) by keeping the rental locked up while you are away, just like you would back home.
- During arrival, note any damages to the rental property and immediately alert the property manager. Keep records of all correspondence just in case a dispute arises.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like obnoxious vacationers bothering your peaceful home. Practice the golden rule for best judgement. Happy residents may even recommend great restaurants and scenic spots you would've never otherwise known about!
- Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Local residents can often help. Who better to ask where to find the fresh catch of the day, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for bird watching?
- Don't leave anything behind! Just before you drive away, walk through the property to reconfirm you've collected all personal belongings. Make sure to check closets, dressers, garages, and bathrooms for hidden treasure. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Document the condition of the property at check-out. We recommend taking a video during your final walk-through.
- Did your group have a great time? Most rental managers make it easy for clients to provide reviews. If your rental and/or property management company was fantastic, they would love to hear it. If anything was inoperable and they failed to correct it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make it a point as part of your review.
