Tips to get the perfect New Bern vacation rental experience:

Money saving strategies:

  • Summer is the most expensive season in Emerald Isle. Reserve your rental property in Fall or Spring months to get the benefit of warm weather while saving money and avoiding crowds. Many vacationers use this method to reserve larger homes, or to reserve an oceanfront rental that would otherwise be unaffordable during the high season. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a New Bern vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation on the coast? Thanksgiving and Christmas are great times to gather with loved ones at your favorite beach.
  • In the New Bern area, The sooner your group can reserve a vacation rental, the better your selection will be. The most desirable rental properties are booked early. Reserving your rental property up to 12 months before your vacation dates is recommended. Christmas, Thanksgiving and New Years Eve are excellent times to search for and reserve your vacation home.
  • Active Duty and veterans of the US Armed forces may be qualified for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property manager if your family qualifies for a special promotion or discount.
  • Property management companies usually offer renters an option to add vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which usually will cost you between 1% - 5% of the booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed trip time as a result of personal medical-related issues or weather, as well as ensuing additional evacuation costs, such as an unexpected hotel overnight or additional fuel expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a bank account-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your host for specifics.
  • Many management companies supply New Bern area travel guide magazines which often include special deals, either offered independently by local businesses, or through a relationship between the rental management company and the business itself. You can also find visitors guide and coupon books at local gas stations and shopping centers.

Planning, picking, and booking yourrental home:

  • Start by having your group agree to vacation dates and a maximum budget.
  • Note the number bedrooms and the bed configuration your group needs. Ocean front 6BR with pool & hot tub has 6 bedrooms and 5 bathrooms.
  • Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed types is often available on booking websites. If you don't see them listed, email the property owner before reserving the vacation property. Note that most listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which often includes sofa beds and bunks.
  • If there's a certain New Bern beach you love, browse homes that are either near by, or those that cater especially to your needs.
  • Proper accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for the less-mobile. Confirm all required amenities are available before booking.
  • If your family is vacationing with pets, you must book a property that allows animals. Get specifics on breed, size, and type restrictions. Some property managers require additional pet deposits and fees.

More tips for your visit:

  • Put the host's information in your smartphone.
  • Note any issues with the rental during check in, and immediately e-mail them to the owner. We specifically recommend texts and e-mails, as they usually contain built-in time stamps that can be valuable if damages are attributed to your stay.
  • Property managers are there to help! Don't be shy to ask questions during your stay.
  • Respecting quiet hours and parking rules can make a stay significantly more pleasurable. You'll magnify your chance to make local friends, and resident neighbors can be an incredible source for finding the best local attractions.
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Residents can frequently point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to grab the best tacos, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for fishing?
  • Lock your rental property while you are out! Don't let burglars ruin your family vacation.
  • Don't leave anything behind! Before you drive away, take a walk through the rental property to reconfirm you've collected everything. Make sure to check closets, dressers, garages, and bathrooms for hidden treasure. Clean the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Go through the rental one final time and keep an eye out for any damage. We recommend inspecting the property with the host whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the manager isn't available, remember to take photos and video of the property to record its condition.
  • Did you have a great stay? Most rental management companies make it easy for guests to provide feedback. If your rental and/or property management company was wonderful, they would love to hear it. If anything was amiss and they failed to fix it within reason, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make it a point as part of your comments.
