Finding the best vacation rental experience:

Sticking to a rental budget:

  • Summer time is high season in the New Bern area. Booking your vacation rental in Spring or Fall is one of our best tips for saving money on your vacation home. Rental rates are lower, and you'll find a larger selection of suitable properties.
  • Reserve your rental as early as possible. Rental schedules often open 12 months in advance (or in September just after Summer ends). Many families reserve their Summer vacations during Christmas and Thanksgiving gatherings. Book before these holidays for best selection.
  • Active Duty and veterans of the US Armed forces may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property management company or host whether your family qualifies for a reduced rate.
  • Booking websites usually offer guests an option to add vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which generally costs between 1% - 5% of the booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for days missed as a result of medical-related catastrophes or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation charges, such as an unanticipated hotel overnight or extra gas expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a life-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask the property owner for additional information.
  • Often, rental management companies and vacation rental houses supply New Bern area visitor guides which will include money-saving deals, either offered directly by local businesses, or through a partnership between the rental management company and the business itself. You can also find New Bern visitors guide and coupon books at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers.

Use filters to search efficiently:

  • Start by selecting vacation dates and a spending budget.
  • Note the number beds and the configuration your family needs. Luxury Oceanfront Home with Pool, Elevator, Theater, and Chef's Kitchen has 7 bedrooms and 8 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our New Bern vacation rental search.
  • Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed types is regularly available online. Otherwise, call the property owner before you book the rental. Remember that most properties list the maximum guest capacity, which typically includes sofa beds in living rooms.
  • If there's a particular New Bern beach you love, browse homes that are either close by, or those that cater to your desires.
  • Proper accessibility can make or break a vacation for the less-mobile. Confirm all necessary amenities are available and included before reserving a rental
  • If your group is vacationing with pets, you will need a pet-friendly property. Make sure to ask for details on breed, size, and type requirements. Some hosts require additional pet deposits and fees.

Additional considerations:

  • Take a copy of the property manager's contact number and arrival/departure procedures for your rental home.
  • To make sure damages aren't linked to your family's stay, inspect the rental for any problem areas during arrival. Speak to the host right away to report any issues. If there is a dispute about legal responsibility later, having the recorded issues and contact attempts will be helpful.
  • Property managers are there to help! Don't be shy to ask any questions during your stay.
  • Respecting quiet hours and parking regulations can make a stay more pleasurable. You'll increase your chance to make local friends, and resident neighbors are a great source for finding the best local restaurants, beaches, and hangouts.
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Neighbors can typically help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to enjoy a steak with a view, have a great night out, or the best spots for BBQ?
  • Ensure you protect the property owner (and your things!) by locking the property while you are gone, just like you would back home.
  • At departure, take a final walk-through to confirm you did not leave anything behind. Make sure to check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden items. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Record a video to document the condition of the property.
  • Leave a review! Hosts rely on great ratings to drive new reservations. They'll be grateful for your review. Alternatively, if something wasn't as described, other vacationing families will be thankful you shared your experience and help them have the best future vacation. Be fair with your review. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the property manager could control the issue, and if so, whether they responded expeditiously to fix it.
