Tips and Tricks to get the optimal New Bern rental home experience:

How to get the best rental value:

  • Booking a rental in the Fall or Spring shoulder seasons is our best tip for saving money on your vacation. Rental rates are lower, and you'll find a better selection of suitable properties.
  • In the New Bern area, The earlier your group can reserve a vacation home, the better your selection will be. The best vacation homes are booked very early. Booking your vacation home 6-12 months before your vacation is recommended. Winter holidays are excellent times to search for and reserve your rental property.
  • Some property management companies offer special rates for active duty military and veterans. Ask your host or property manager if discounts are available for your group before you book.
  • Management companies and individual rental owners frequently offer guests an option to obtain vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which usually will cost you 1% - 5% of the stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for missed days as a result of medical-related issues or weather, as well as evacuation charges, such as an unanticipated hotel stay or extra gas expenses. Trip insurance might be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your property manager for details.
  • Look for your local New Bern visitors guide magazine when you check-in. If your rental home doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local grocery stores and visitor centers. In addition to great local articles, visitors guide magazines contain offers and deals for nearby tours, shops, and attractions.

Narrow your rental Search:

  • Start by having your family commit to vacation dates and a max budget.
  • Decide how many bedrooms and the bed configuration your group needs. Luxury Oceanfront Home with Pool, Elevator, Theater, and Chef's Kitchen has 7 bedrooms and 8 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our New Bern vacation rental search.
  • Precise details about bedrooms and bed counts is almost always accessible on booking pages. Otherwise, reach out to the property manager before you book the vacation home. Note that most listings specify maximum guest capacity, which oftentimes includes sofa beds and bunks. You'll need to establish which bed configuration is suitable for your vacation family.
  • Is your family looking for special amenities? Most rental websites include search filters with amenity lists.
  • Proper accessibility can make or break a vacation for those with limited mobility. Confirm all required amenities are available before booking.
  • If your group is bringing pets, search for a property that allows animals. Request specifics on breed, weight, and type restrictions. Be aware that some hosts charge additional pet fees.

Advice for a smooth stay:

  • Take a copy of the host's contact number and entry/exit procedures for your rental. Store the host's information in your smartphone.
  • At Check-in, note any issues with the rental property and immediately contact the property manager. Keep records of all correspondence in case a dispute arises.
  • Property managers are available to help! Don't be shy to ask any questions before, during, or after your stay.
  • Be respectful of your neighbors. Frequently, surrounding homes are occupied by local residents. Respecting quiet hours and parking rules is the right thing to do.
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Local residents can frequently help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to get the best seafood, have a great night out, or the best spots for shopping?
  • Ensure you protect the property owner (and your stuff!) by locking the rental while you are away, just like you would at home.
  • Don't leave anything behind! Before you drive away, take a walk through the property to confirm you've collected all personal items. Check closets, dressers, garages, and bathrooms for hidden belongings. Clean out the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Please make sure to walk through the property a final time and keep an eye out for any damage. We suggest walking through with the property manager whenever possible. If the host is not available, take photos of the rental to record its condition.
  • Did your group have a fantastic vacation? Most vacation rental websites make it easy for clients to provide comments. If your rental property and/or property management company was wonderful, they would love to hear about it. If anything was imperfect and they failed to address it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make a note as part of your review.
