Getting the best New Bern vacation property experience:
Finding the best value:
- The sooner you can reserve a home, the better your selection will be. The best rental homes are reserved very early. Booking your rental home six - twelve months before your vacation dates is recommended. Holiday gatherings are excellent times to search for and reserve your vacation rental.
- To get the best vacation home within budget, we strongly suggest reserving in the Fall or Spring shoulder seasons. You'll benefit from lower rental rates, greater selection, warm weather and the absence of large crowds at the beach and popular New Bern attractions. Many vacationers use this method to find larger homes within budget, or to book an oceanfront rental that would otherwise be unavailable during the high season.
- Active Duty and veterans of the US Armed forces may be qualified for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective vacation rental company or host if your vacationing group qualifies for a discount.
- Booking websites usually offer customers an option to purchase trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which commonly will cost anywhere between 1% - 5% of the base booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for days missed as a result of personal medical-related emergencies or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional evacuation costs, such as an unanticipated hotel overnight or additional fuel expenses. Trip insurance can be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your host for additional information.
- Find a copy of your local New Bern visitors guide upon arrival. If your rental doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local shops and visitor centers. In addition to great local stories, visitors guides have coupons for nearby shops and restaurants.
Make a plan and pick your prefectvacation home:
- Choose a group leader, choose your trip dates, and select a max budget.
- Determine how many bedrooms and the configuration you need. Great Oceanfront Condo! 2 BR with WiFi and pools! has 2 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms.
- Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed counts is normally available online. If they are not listed, contact the host before you reserve the vacation home. Remember that most listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which usually includes sofa beds in living rooms. You will need to establish what is optimal for your vacation family.
- Traveling with pets? Although a number of vacation homes allow pets or animals, guidelines and costs vary per property. Type of pet, size and breeds may be limited. Make sure to ask before booking, and study your rental agreement! Extra fees or charges applied to your invoice.
- Does your family require unique amenities? Most rental websites include search filters for amenities. Filtering by amenity will allow you to quickly find the perfect rental.
- Appropriate accessibility can make or break a vacation for persons with disabilities. Remember to confirm all necessary amenities are available before booking
Considerations for your stay:
- Put the owner's contact information in your smartphone and wallet.
- Ask questions. You may need instructions for a garage door opener, stereo or thermostat. Contact your owner. They are there to help! A brief phone call prevents lots of problems.
- Keep your rental home locked while you are gone! Don't let crooks ruin your family vacation.
- Make a record of any damages to the rental at check in, and immediately contact the host. We especially recommend e-mails and text messages, as they usually contain built-in time stamps that are useful if a dispute arises.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like unpleasant visitors bothering your peaceful home life. Use the golden rule for best judgement. Happy residents may even recommend great beaches and attractions you would have not otherwise known!
- Don't forget to... Ask a local! Residents can frequently help. Who better to ask where to take kids for a treat, have a great night out, or the best spots for bird watching?
- Just prior to departing, complete a final walk-through to confirm you haven't forget any personal items. Make sure to check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden treasure. Clean out the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Inspect the rental a final time and scan for any damage. We suggest inspecting the property with the host whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the host isn't available, remember to take video of the rental to record its condition at check-out.
- Leave feedback! Hosts rely on good feedback to drive new bookings. They'll be thankful for your review. Alternatively, if something wasn't as described, other vacationers will will be grateful for your review and help them have the best future vacation. Please be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the owner had any control over the issue, and if so, whether they responded reasonably to remedy it.
