Tips and Tricks to get the best Atlantic Beach vacation home experience:

How to get the best rental value:

  • In the New Bern area, The earlier you can reserve a vacation rental, the better your selection will be. The most desirable vacation homes are booked very early. Booking your vacation property six to twelve months before your travel dates is recommended. Winter holidays are excellent times to search for and reserve your rental home.
  • Summer is the most expensive season in coastal NC. Book your rental in the Fall or Spring shoulder seasons to enjoy beautiful weather while saving money and avoiding crowded roads, restaurants, and activities.
  • Active Duty and veterans of the US Armed forces may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property owner whether your group qualifies for a discount.
  • Property management companies frequently offer guests an option to add trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which generally will cost anywhere between 1% - 5% of the reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed days as a result of personal medical-related issues or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation costs, such as an unanticipated hotel stay or extra gasoline expenses. Trip insurance can be a a life-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your host for more information.
  • Often, rental management companies supply New Bern area visitors guides which often include coupons, either offered independently by local companies, or by way of a relationship with the property management company and the business itself. You can also find New Bern visitors guide magazine and coupon books at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers.

Narrow your rental Search:

  • Choose a designated group leader, choose your dates, and choose a maximum budget.
  • Determine how many bedrooms and what type of bedroom configuration your family needs. Tommy's Bahama! in A Place At The Beach Resort on the OCEAN & the BEST pools! has 2 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our vacation rental search.
  • Specific information regarding bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is commonly available online. If not, call the property manager before you reserve the home. Remember that most listings specify maximum guest capacity, which usually includes pull out couches in living rooms. You will need to work out what is optimal for your vacation group.
  • If your group is traveling with pets, you must book a pet-friendly vacation rental. Ask for information on breed, size, and type restrictions. Note that some property managers charge pet deposits and fees.
  • Are you visiting for a single attraction or event? Try a map search to locate nearby properties.
  • Appropriate accessibility can make or break a vacation for the less-mobile. .

Additional considerations:

  • Add the host's contact info to your smartphone. Take a copy of check in/check out procedures.
  • Ask questions. You may want instructions for a hot tub, stereo or appliance. Contact your host. They are there to help! A brief telephone call prevents a lot of issues.
  • Ensure you protect the owner (and your stuff!) by locking the rental when you are away, just like you would at home.
  • Make a record of any damages to the rental during check in, and immediately contact the host. We specifically recommend e-mails and text messages, as they usually contain built-in time stamps that are very helpful if a dispute arises.
  • Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like disagreeable visitors disrupting your home life. Apply the golden rule for best judgement. Happy residents may even recommend great local food and scenic spots you would have not otherwise known!
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Residents can frequently help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to find the best bike paths, have a great night out, or the best spots for crabbing?
  • Double-check every room of the vacation property to confirm that you've packed everything at check-out. Make sure to check garages, decks, and cabinets for hidden belongings. Clean the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Walk through the rental one final time and scan for any damage. We recommend inspecting the property with the property manager whenever you can. If the host isn't available, remember to take photographs of the property to record its condition.
  • Did your family have a wonderful stay? Many rental websites make it easy for guests to provide comments. If your rental property and/or property manager was wonderful, they would love to hear about it. If anything was amiss and they failed to fix it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make it a point as part of your comments.
