Rental home tips and tricks:

Find your perfect rental home:

  • Summer time is high season in Emerald Isle. To book the most suitable rental for your budget, we suggest booking in Fall or Spring. You'll enjoy lower rates, better selection, beautiful weather and the absence of large crowds at the beach and popular attractions. Many vacationers use this method to find larger homes within budget, or to book a beach front vacation rental that would otherwise be unavailable during June, July, and August.
  • In the New Bern area, The earlier your group can book a rental home, the better your selection will be. The best vacation rentals are booked early. Booking your vacation property up to twelve months before your vacation dates is recommended. Winter holidays are excellent times to search for and reserve your vacation rental.
  • Hosts and Property managers sometimes offer discounts or promotional rates for veterans. Check with your host or property manager to see if rate reductions are available for your group.
  • Property managers usually offer their guests an option to add vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which generally will cost 1% - 5% of the base booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for missed vacation time as a result of medical-related catastrophes or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation costs, such as an unexpected hotel stay or extra fuel expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a welcome relief if the unforeseen happens. Ask your host for specifics.
  • Many management companies and vacation rental houses supply New Bern area visitor guides which will include money-saving offers, either offered directly by local businesses, or through a relationship between the management company and the business itself. You can also find New Bern visitors guide and coupon books at local gas stations and shopping centers.

Planning and choosing a perfectrental:

  • Start by having your family choose dates and a maximum budget.
  • Decide how many beds and the configuration your group requires. Emerald Isle, NC oceanfront duplex with a pool! has 6 bedrooms and 4 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our search.
  • Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed counts & types is generally accessible on booking websites. If they are not listed, reach out to the host before booking the home. Remember that most property listings specify maximum guest capacity, which frequently includes pull out couches in living rooms.
  • If there's a particular New Bern attraction you are crazy about, search for rentals that are either near by, or those that cater to your requirements.
  • Suitable accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for persons with disabilities. Confirm all necessary amenities are included before reserving a rental.
  • Some properties allow pets, but some do not. Acceptable types of dog or cat, size and breeds may be restricted, and additional fees may apply. Ask your host about pet restrictions before booking.

More considerations for your visit:

  • Add the property manager's contact information to your smartphone. Understand and take a copy of arrival/departure procedures.
  • To make sure damages are not attributed to your family's stay, note any problem areas when you arrive. Get in touch with the property manager immediately to document any damages. If there is a dispute about who is responsible, having the recorded problems and contact attempts will be useful.
  • Ask questions. You may need instructions for a garage door opener, stereo or coffee maker. Contact your host. They are there to help! A brief text message prevents quite a few problems.
  • Don't forget to respect your neighbors. Often, adjacent homes are occupied by permanent residents. Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking rules can make a stay significantly more pleasurable.
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Neighbors can typically help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to find the best seashells, have a great night out, or the best spots for crabbing?
  • Ensure you protect the owner (and your stuff!) by locking the property while you are gone, just like you would back home.
  • At departure, take a final walk-through to make sure you have not leave anything behind. Re-check closets, dressers, garages, and bathrooms for hidden items. Clean out the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Inspect the property one final time and scan for any damage. We recommend walking through with the host whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the property manager is not available, ensure that you take photographs of the rental to record its condition.
  • Did your group have a wonderful time? Many vacation rental websites make it easy for clients to provide reviews. If your rental property and/or host was fantastic, they always love to hear your praise. If anything was defective and they failed to fix it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make a note as part of your review.
