Booking the best rental home experience:
Finding the best rental home value:
- To get the best value, try changing your group's vacation week to the Spring or Fall seasons. May, September, and even October offer great weather, less crowded beaches, and greatly reduced traffic. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a New Bern vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday on the coast? Christmas, Thanksgiving, and New Years Eve are great times to gather with family and friends at your favorite beach.
- The sooner you can reserve a home, the easier your search will be. The best vacation homes are reserved very early. Reserving your vacation home up to 12 months before your travel dates is recommended. Winter holidays are excellent times to search for and reserve your vacation home.
- Hosts and Property managers sometimes offer rate reductions for veterans. It's always a good idea to check with your property manager to see if discounts are available for your group.
- Property management companies usually offer customers an option to buy vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which generally will cost you 1% - 5% of the base reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for missed vacation time as a result of personal medical-related emergencies or weather, as well as hurricane evacuation costs, such as an unanticipated hotel or additional gas expenses. Trip insurance might be a a life-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your host for details.
- Look for your local New Bern visitors guide magazine when you check-in. If your rental property doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local shops and visitor centers. In addition to great local information, visitors guides contain money saving offers on nearby restaurants, attractions, and tours.
Use filters to search efficiently:
- Select dates and maximum budget.
- Decide how many bedrooms and what type of bedroom configuration your family needs. Ocean view family cottage, just steps from the sea and close to everything. has 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms.
- Precise information regarding bedrooms and bed types is often available on booking pages. If not, contact the property management company before you book the home. Remember that most property listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which usually includes sofa beds.
- Are you visiting for a single attraction? Try a map search to locate nearby rentals.
- Suitable accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for those with limited mobility. Remember to confirm all required amenities are available before booking
- If your group is traveling with pets, you'll need to book a pet-friendly property. Request specifics on breed, size, and type requirements. Often, property managers charge additional pet fees.
Some things to know before you go:
- Take a copy of the owner's phone number and check in/check out procedures for your rental home. We recommend storing the host's contact information in your smartphone.
- To make certain no damages are linked to your stay, make note of any problem areas when you arrive. E-mail the host immediately to document any issues. If there is a dispute about legal responsibility later, having the recorded problems and contact attempts will be very helpful.
- Property managers are there to help! Don't be shy to ask questions before, during, or after your stay.
- Don't forget to respect your neighbors. Often times, surrounding homes are occupied by local residents. Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking regulations reduces conflict and allows everyone to enjoy their day.
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Residents can typically help. Who better to ask where to get the best seafood, have a great night out, or the best spots for bird watching?
- Lock your vacation home while you're away. Protect the owner's property and your stuff!
- Double-check every room of the property to make sure that you've packed all of your belongings at check-out. Make sure to check garages, decks, and cabinets for hidden items. Clean out the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Record a video to document the condition of the property.
- Did your family have a great time? Most rental websites make it easy for guests to provide reviews. If your rental property and/or property manager was fantastic, they would love to hear it. If anything was defective and they failed to fix it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make a note as part of your comments.
