How to find the best Emerald Isle vacation property experience:

Finding your best deal:

  • Summer months are high season in Emerald Isle. To get the best value, shift your group's vacation dates to the Spring or Fall months. May, September, and even October offer warmer temperatures, fewer crowds, and greatly reduced traffic. Many vacationers use this method to find larger homes within budget, or to reserve an oceanfront rental that would otherwise be unavailable during the Summer months.
  • Book your rental as soon as possible. Rental schedules usually open twelve months in advance (or in September just after Summertime ends). Many groups book their Summer rental homes during Winter holiday gatherings. Book before these holidays for best selection.
  • Hosts and Property managers sometimes offer discounts or promotional rates for active duty military and veterans. Make sure to check with your host or property manager to see if discounts are available for your group.
  • Property management companies often offer customers an option to buy vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which generally will cost 1% - 5% of the reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any days missed as a result of personal medical-related issues or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation costs, such as an unanticipated hotel overnight or extra gas expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a welcome relief if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your host for additional information.
  • Many rental management companies supply New Bern area visitors guides which often include special deals, either offered directly by local businesses, or through a relationship between the management company and the business itself. You can also find New Bern visitors guide magazine and coupon books at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers.

How to choose the best vacation rental in Emerald Isle:

  • Choose a group leader, select your vacation week, and select a maximum budget.
  • Decide how many beds and the bed configuration your family needs. Perfect Oceanfront Cottage With Private Pool: Sea Glass has 4 bedrooms and 4 bathrooms.
  • Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is often available on booking pages. If they are not listed, contact the property manager before reserving your rental. Note that most properties list maximum guest capacity, which frequently includes pull-out couches and bunk beds.
  • Are you visiting for a specific event? Try a map search to browse nearby properties.
  • Proper accessibility can make or break a vacation for guests with disabilities. Make certain to ask about wheel chair entry, pool lifts and specialized equipment needs.
  • Some rentals allow pets, but some don't. Allowable types of family pet, size and breeds may be restricted, and additional charges may apply. Ask the host about allowable breeds and types before booking.

Advice for a wonderful stay:

  • Take a copy of the property manager's phone number and entry/exit procedures for your rental property. Store the host's information in your smartphone.
  • Note any issues with the rental at check in, and immediately e-mail them to the property manager. We especially recommend texts and e-mails, as they usually contain time stamps that are very helpful if damages are assessed.
  • Hosts are there to help! Don't be shy to ask any questions during your stay.
  • Respect your neighbors. Often times, nearby homes are occupied by permanent residents. Respecting noise limits and parking rules can make a stay significantly more pleasurable.
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Neighbors can frequently point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to spend a rainy day, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for crabbing?
  • Ensure you protect the rental owner (and your things!) by locking and securing the home when you are away, just like you would back home.
  • Don't leave anything behind! Just before you drive away, take a walk through the property to confirm you've collected all personal items. Check dressers, closets, and bathrooms for hidden treasure. Clean the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Go through the property one final time and look for damages to contents or the property itself. We suggest walking through with the property manager whenever possible. If the host is not available, take video and pictures of the rental to record its condition.
  • Did your group have a fantastic vacation? Many vacation rental websites make it easy for guests to provide reviews. If your rental and/or host was great, they would love to hear about it. If anything was inoperable and they failed to address it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make a note as part of your review.
