Strategies for getting the best vacation home experience:

When to book & When to go:

  • Summer months are the most expensive season along the coast of NC. Reserve your rental in the Spring or Fall to enjoy beautiful weather while saving money and avoiding crowds. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a New Bern vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday on the coast? Christmas, Thanksgiving, and New Years Eve are great times to gather with loved ones at the beach.
  • The sooner your group can reserve a vacation home, the better your selection will be. The best vacation rentals are reserved very early. Booking your vacation property six to twelve months before your vacation is recommended. Holidays such as Christmas and Thanksgiving are excellent times to plan and book your vacation rental.
  • Some hosts offer discounts for active duty military and veterans. Check with your property manager to see if rate reductions are available for your group.
  • Property management companies often offer guests an option to purchase vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which commonly will cost anywhere between 1% - 5% of the stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any days missed as a result of personal medical-related catastrophes or weather disasters, as well as evacuation costs or charges, such as an unexpected hotel stay or additional gasoline expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a welcome relief if the unforeseen happens. Ask your host for additional information.
  • Find a copy of your local visitors guide when you check-in. If your rental property doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local grocery stores and visitor centers. In addition to great local information, visitors guide magazines have discounts for local tours, shops, and attractions.

Use filters to search efficiently:

  • Choose a group leader, choose your trip dates, and select a spending budget.
  • Note the number beds and the bed configuration your group needs. Charming dog-friendly home near beach with central AC & W\/D has 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms.

  • Appropriate accessibility can make or break a vacation for those with limited mobility. .
  • Some rental properties allow pets, and some do not. Allowable types of pet, size and breeds may be restricted, and additional fees may apply. Ask the host about pets before booking.

Have a fantastic stay:

  • Review arrival and departure procedures before traveling. Add a note with the directions to your phone, and take a printed copy.
  • Document any damages to the property during check in, and immediately contact the owner. We especially recommend texts and e-mails, as they usually contain time stamps that are beneficial if a dispute is filed.
  • Property managers are there to help! Don't be shy to ask questions before, during, or after your stay.
  • Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking rules can make a stay significantly more pleasurable. Be a good neighbor. You'll increase your chance to make local friends, and resident neighbors are usually a fantastic resource to find the best local spots.
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local! Locals can often point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to enjoy a steak with a view, have a great night out, or the best spots for fishing?
  • Keep the property locked while you are out! Don't let thieves spoil your trip.
  • Double-check every room of the property to confirm that you've packed all belongings at check-out. Re-check dressers, closets, and bathrooms for hidden belongings. Clean out the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
