Tips and Tricks to get the best vacation rental experience:
Cost saving strategies:
- Book your vacation home as soon as possible. Rental schedules often open a year in advance (or in September just after Summer ends). Many families book their Summer rentals during Winter holiday gatherings. Book before these holidays for best selection.
- Summer months are the most expensive season in coastal NC. Booking in Fall or Spring is an excellent way to save on your vacation rental. Rental rates are lower, and you'll find a larger selection of acceptable homes. Many vacationers use this strategy to find larger homes within budget, or to reserve a beach front rental that would otherwise be unavailable or unaffordable during the Summer months. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a New Bern vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation near the ocean? Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years are great times to gather with friends and family at your favorite beach.
- Veterans and Active Duty Military members may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property owner if your group qualifies for a reduced rate.
- Management companies and individual rental owners often offer guests an option to buy vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which usually costs 1% - 5% of the base reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for missed vacation time as a result of medical-related emergencies or weather disasters, as well as hurricane evacuation charges, such as an unanticipated hotel stay or additional fuel expenses. Trip insurance can be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen happens. Ask your property manager for details.
- Find a copy of your local visitors guide when you arrive at the rental property. If your rental home doesn't have one, you can find them at local grocery stores and visitor centers. In addition to great information, visitor guide magazines have discounts for local shops and restaurants.
Use filters to search efficiently:
- Select a group lead, choose your vacation week, and select a max budget.
- Note the number bedrooms and what type of bedroom configuration your group needs. Oceanside Condo in Atlantic Beach, NC- Anchors Away Unit 4 has 2 bedrooms and 1 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our rental home search.
- Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is almost always accessible online. If you don't see them listed, email or call the host before you book the vacation home. Remember that most property listings specify maximum guest capacity, which usually includes pull-out couches and bunk beds.
- If your family is vacationing with pets, you'll need to search for a pet-friendly rental. Ask for information on breed, size, and type requirements. Note that some property owners require additional pet deposits and fees.
- If there's an individual New Bern destination you crave, browse homes that are either close by, or those that cater to your requirements.
- Suitable accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for persons with disabilities. Make certain to ask about wheel chair accessibility, pool lifts and specialized equipment needs.
Some things to know before you go:
- Review arrival and departure procedures before leaving home. Add a note with the directions to your smartphone, and take a printed backup.
- Ask questions. You may want instructions for a fireplace, elevator or thermostat. Contact your property manager. They are there to help! A brief call prevents lots of issues.
- Lock your rental property while you're out! Don't let burglars spoil your vacation.
- At Check-in, note any issues with the property and immediately contact the property manager. Record all correspondence just in case a dispute arises.
- Be a good neighbor. Often times, nearby homes are filled by local residents. Respecting quiet hours and parking regulations can make a stay significantly more pleasurable.
- Don't forget to... Ask a local! Local residents can typically help. Who better to ask where to find the best seashells, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for shopping?
- Don't leave anything behind! Just before departing, walk through the property to make sure you've collected all personal belongings. Re-check dressers, closets, and bathrooms for hidden items. Clean the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Record a video to document the condition of the property.
- Did you have a wonderful vacation? Many rental managers make it easy for clients to provide reviews. If your rental property and/or property manager was fantastic, they would love to hear it. If anything was inoperable and they failed to fix it within reason, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make it a point as part of your comments.
