How to book the best Emerald Isle vacation home experience:

Sticking to your spending plan:

  • Summertime is high season in Emerald Isle. To book the best rental within your budget, we highly recommend reserving in the Fall or Spring. You'll benefit from lower rental rates, greater selection, warm weather and the absence of giant crowds at New Bern restaurants, beaches, and activities. Many vacationers use this strategy to reserve larger homes, or to reserve a beach front vacation rental that would otherwise be unavailable during the high season.
  • Reserve your vacation rental as early as possible. Rental schedules usually open a year in advance (or in September just after Summertime ends). Many families book their Summer rental homes during holiday get-togethers. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
  • Property managers sometimes offer discounts for active duty military and veterans. Remember to ask your host or property manager if special discounts are available for your group.
  • Property management companies typically offer renters an option to add trip insurance. Trip insurance, which normally costs between 1% - 5% of the base reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any days missed as a result of personal medical-related issues or weather, as well as hurricane evacuation costs or charges, such as an unexpected hotel stay or extra gasoline expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a welcome relief if the unforeseen happens. Ask your host for program terms and fees.
  • Often, rental management companies supply New Bern area visitors guides that include money-saving offers, either offered directly by local companies, or through a relationship with the rental management company and the business itself. You can also find New Bern area magazine and coupon books at local gas stations and shopping centers.

Narrow your Search:

  • Begin by choosing a vacation week and a max budget.
  • Note the number bedrooms and the bed configuration your family requires. A Wizards Wynd - 4BR 2BA sleeps 8 - ocean view with private pool has 4 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our New Bern rentals search.
  • Precise information about bedrooms and bed counts & types is regularly accessible on booking pages. If not, email the property management company before you book the vacation property. Note that most property listings specify maximum guest capacity, which usually includes sofa beds and bunks. You'll need to establish what configuration is optimal for your vacation family.
  • Visiting for a single event or attraction? If so, use a map search to browse nearby properties.
  • Appropriate accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for guests with disabilities. .
  • If your group is bringing pets, you must reserve a pet-friendly property. Make sure to ask for specifics on breed, size, and type restrictions. Often, property owners charge pet deposits and fees.

Tips for a smooth stay:

  • Add the owner's contact information to your smartphone. Print and take a copy of check in/check out procedures.
  • Upon check-in, make note of any damages to the property and immediately contact the property manager. Keep records of all correspondence just in case a dispute arises.
  • Hosts are there to help! Feel free to ask questions before, during, or after your stay.
  • Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like obnoxious vacationers disrupting your peaceful neighborhood. Use the golden rule for common sense. If they like you, locals might even recommend great local food and attractions you would have never otherwise known!
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Local residents can typically point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to get the best breakfast in town, have a great night out, or the best spots for fishing?
  • Keep your rental home locked while you are away! Don't let crooks ruin your holiday.
  • Don't leave anything behind! Before you drive away, walk through the rental property to confirm you've collected all personal items. Check garages, decks, and cabinets for hidden belongings. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Please make sure to walk through the rental one final time and scan for damage. We suggest inspecting the property with the host whenever possible. If the host is not available, take pictures of the property to record its condition.
  • Did your family have a fantastic time? Most vacation rental websites make it easy for guests to provide reviews. If your rental property and/or host was wonderful, they would love to hear it. If anything was inoperable and they failed to fix it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make a note as part of your feedback.
