Strategies to get the perfect New Bern rental experience:
Getting the most from your spending budget:
- June, July, and August are the most expensive months along the coast of NC. To find the most suitable rental home for your budget, we suggest reserving in Fall or Spring. You'll enjoy lower rental rates, greater selection, gorgeous weather and the absence of large crowds at restaurants, beaches, and activities. Many vacationers use this strategy to find larger homes within budget, or to book an oceanfront vacation rental that would otherwise be unavailable or unaffordable during the Summer months.
- Reserve your rental as soon as possible. Rental schedules usually become available twelve months in advance (or in September just after Summer ends). Many groups book their Summer rentals during holiday get-togethers. Book before these holidays for best selection.
- Veterans and Active Duty Military members may be qualified for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property management company or host whether your group qualifies for a price reduction or discount.
- Management companies and individual rental owners frequently offer guests an option to purchase vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which usually will cost between 1% - 5% of the base booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any days missed as a result of personal medical-related emergencies or weather, as well as evacuation costs, such as an unanticipated hotel or additional fuel expenses. Trip insurance can be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your host for details.
- Look for your local New Bern visitors guide upon checking in. If your rental home doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers. In addition to great information, visitor guide magazines contain offers and deals for local tours and attractions.
Planning, selecting, and booking the perfectrental home:
- Choose dates and max budget.
- Determine how many beds and the bed configuration your group requires. A Place at the Beach 178: 2 BR, 2 BA Condominium in Atlantic Beach, Sleeps 4 has 2 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms.
- Specific information regarding bedrooms and bed counts & types is generally available online. If you don't see them listed, email the property owner before reserving your home. Note that most listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which frequently includes pull-out couches and bunk beds.
- If there's a certain New Bern destination you crave, keep an eye out for homes that are either near by, or those that cater especially to your desires.
- Proper accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for the less-mobile. Make certain to ask about specialized equipment and wheel chair accessibility.
- If your family is vacationing with pets, search for a pet-friendly rental. Make sure to ask for details on breed, size, and type restrictions. Note that some hosts require additional pet deposits and fees.
Know before you go:
- Put the manager's information in your smartphone.
- To ensure that no damages are linked to your stay, make a record of any problem areas during check in. Make contact with the property manager immediately to document any damages. If there is a dispute, having the recorded issues and contact attempts will be helpful.
- Property managers are available to help! Feel free to ask questions during your stay.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like disrespectful visitors disrupting your peace. Practice the golden rule for best judgement. Happy residents may even recommend great restaurants and attractions you would have not otherwise known!
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Local residents can frequently help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to find the fresh catch of the day, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for fishing?
- Lock your rental home while you are away. Protect your property!
- Re-check the property to make sure that you've packed all personal items on check-out day. Make sure to check garages, decks, and cabinets for hidden treasure. Clean the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Go through the property a final time and look for any damage. We suggest walking through with the property manager whenever possible. If the manager is not available, remember to take video and pictures of the property to record its condition.
- Did you have a terrific vacation? Many vacation rental websites make it easy for travelers to provide comments. If your property and/or host was wonderful, they would love to hear about it. If anything was wrong and they failed to fix it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make a note as part of your review.
