Our top Vacation rental home tips and tricks:
Finding the best rental value:
- Summertime is the most expensive season in coastal NC. Reserve your New Bern rental property in Spring or Fall to enjoy warm weather while saving money and avoiding crowds. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a New Bern vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation on the coast? Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years are great times to gather with loved ones at your favorite beach.
- Reserve your rental as soon as possible. Rental schedules often become available a year in advance (or in September just after Summertime ends). Many groups book their Summer rentals during Christmas and Thanksgiving gatherings. Book before these holidays for best selection.
- Active Duty and veterans of the US Armed forces may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property manager or host whether your group qualifies for a discount.
- Booking websites usually offer guests an option to buy vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which normally costs between 1% - 5% of the base stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for missed time as a result of medical-related issues or weather, as well as evacuation costs, such as an unexpected hotel overnight or extra gas expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a life-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask the property owner for program terms and fees.
- Look for your local New Bern area magazine when you arrive at the rental property. If your rental doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local grocery stores and visitor centers. In addition to great local information, visitors guide magazines have coupons for local attractions, tours, restaurants, and shops.
Use filters to search efficiently:
- First and foremost, have your group commit to vacation dates and a maximum budget.
- Decide how many beds and the configuration your group needs. 103 Ebb Tide Plus, Almost Oceanfront House in Emerald Isle, NC! has 3 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms.
- Specific information regarding bedrooms and bed counts & types is normally accessible online. Otherwise, contact the property management company before reserving your rental. Remember that most property listings specify the max. guest capacity, which oftentimes includes pull out couches in living rooms. You'll need to establish what is optimal for your group.
- Does your family require specific amenities? Most websites include amenity lists and search filters. Use these to your advantage to find the perfect rental home.
- Suitable accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for persons with a disability. Confirm all necessary amenities are available before booking.
- Some rental properties allow pets, but some don't. Allowable types of dog or cat, weight and breeds may be restricted, and added fees may apply. Ask the property manager about pet restrictions before booking.
Know before you go:
- Be sure you get the property manager's phone number and arrival/departure procedures for your rental home. Store the manager's information in your smartphone and wallet.
- Upon check-in, note any issues with the property and immediately alert the property manager. Record all correspondence just in case a dispute arises.
- Property managers are available to help! Don't be shy to ask questions during your stay.
- Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking policies can make a stay significantly more pleasurable. You'll magnify your chance to make some new local friends, and resident neighbors are often a fantastic resource to find the best local scenic spots.
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Residents can usually help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to take kids for a treat, have a great night out, or the best spots for bird watching?
- Lock your rental property while you are out! Don't let crooks ruin your family vacation.
- Don't leave anything behind! Just before you drive away, take a walk through the rental to confirm you've collected all belongings. Make sure to check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden treasure. Clean the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Go through the rental one final time and keep an eye out for any damage. We advise inspecting the property with the property manager whenever you can. If the manager is not available, ensure that you take video and pictures of the property to record its condition at check-out.
- Leave a review! Hosts rely on great feedback to stimulate new reservations. They'll be grateful for your feedback. Alternatively, if something wasn't right, other vacationing families will appreciate that you share your review and help them have the best future vacation. Remember to be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the manager could control the issue, and if so, whether they responded quickly to remedy it.
