Tips for getting the perfect Emerald Isle vacation home experience:
How to get the best value:
- June, July, and August are high season in the New Bern area. Book your New Bern rental in the Spring or Fall to enjoy beautiful weather while saving money and avoiding crowded roads, restaurants, and activities. Many vacationers use this strategy to reserve larger homes, or to book an oceanfront rental that would otherwise be unaffordable during the Summer months. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a New Bern vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday near the ocean? Christmas, Thanksgiving, and New Years Eve are great times to gather with family and friends at the beach.
- In the New Bern area, The sooner you can book, the easier your search will be. The best vacation rentals are reserved very early. Booking your vacation property up to 12 months before your vacation dates is recommended. Christmas, Thanksgiving and New Years Eve are excellent times to plan and reserve your vacation rental.
- Veterans and Active Duty Military members may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property owner or host whether your family qualifies for a special rate.
- Property management companies typically offer their guests an option to obtain trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which generally costs between 1% - 5% of the stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for missed days as a result of medical-related issues or weather, as well as hurricane evacuation costs or charges, such as an unanticipated hotel overnight or additional gas expenses. Trip insurance might be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask the property owner for additional information.
- Often, property management companies and vacation rental houses supply New Bern area visitor guides which will include coupons, either offered directly by local businesses, or through a relationship between the management company and the business itself. You can also find New Bern area magazine and coupon books at local shops and grocery stores.
Finding the perfect rental:
- Choose your vacation dates and maximum budget.
- Determine how many beds and the bed configuration your family requires. A Herd Of Turtles, Almost Oceanfront House in Emerald Isle, NC! has 4 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our vacation rental search.
- Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed types is normally accessible on booking websites. Otherwise, reach out to the property management company before you reserve your rental. Note that most property listings specify the max. guest capacity, which usually includes sofa beds. You will need to determine what bed configuration is optimal for your vacation family.
- Is your group looking for special amenities? Most rental websites include search filters for amenities. Amenity filters help you quickly remove less-optimal properties.
- Suitable accessibility can make or break a vacation for persons with disabilities. Confirm all required amenities are available and included before booking
- If your group is traveling with pets, you'll need to book a rental that allows animals. Make sure to ask for specifics on breed, size, and type restrictions. Often, property managers charge additional pet fees.
Advice for your stay:
- Get the owner's phone number and arrival/departure procedures for your rental property.
- At Check-in, note any issues with the property and immediately alert the property manager. Keep records of all coorespondence.
- Ask questions. You may need instructions for a garage door opener, stereo or WIFI setup. Contact your host. They are there to help! A brief phone call prevents lots of issues.
- Respecting quiet hours and parking regulations can make a stay significantly more pleasurable. You will enhance your chance to make local friends, and resident neighbors are usually an incredible source for finding the best local attractions.
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Locals can usually help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to take kids for a treat, have a great night out, or the best spots for shopping?
- Lock your vacation home while you are out. Protect the owner's property and your stuff!
- Double-check every room of the rental property to make sure that you've packed everything at departure. Remember to check dressers, closets, and bathrooms for hidden treasure. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Document the condition of the property at check-out. We recommend taking a video during your final walk-through.
- Did your family have a terrific vacation? Many rental websites make it easy for customers to provide feedback. If your rental property and/or property manager was terrific, they always love to hear your praise. If anything was amiss and they failed to fix it within reason, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make it a point as part of your feedback.
