Strategies to get the perfect vacation rental experience:

Cost saving strategies:

  • Reserve your vacation home as soon as possible. Rental schedules often become available 12 months in advance (or in September just after Summer ends). Many families book their Summer vacation rentals during Winter holiday gatherings. Book before these holidays for best selection.
  • June, July, and August are the most expensive months along the coast of NC. To book the most suitable rental home within budget, we recommend booking in Fall or Spring. You'll enjoy lower rental rates, greater selection, gorgeous weather and the absence of large crowds at your favorite New Bern restaurants and activities. Many vacationers use this strategy to find larger homes within budget, or to book a beach front vacation rental that would otherwise be unavailable during the Summer.
  • Property managers sometimes offer discounts or promotional rates for veterans and active duty military. Ask your host or property manager if special offers are available for your family before you book.
  • Property management companies typically offer their guests an option to obtain vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which costs between 1% - 5% of the base reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for days missed as a result of personal medical-related catastrophes or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation costs or charges, such as an unexpected hotel or additional fuel expenses. Trip insurance can be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask the property owner for more information.
  • Look for your local visitors guide when you arrive at the rental property. If your rental home doesn't have one, you can find them at local shops and fuel stations. In addition to great local stories, travel guides contain deals for local attractions, tours, restaurants, and shops.

Use filters to narrow your search:

  • To start, have your group agree to date ranges and a max budget.
  • Note the number bedrooms and the configuration your family needs. Agape West, Oceanfront Duplex in Emerald Isle, NC! has 4 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our vacation rental search.
  • Precise details about bedrooms and bed counts & types is normally accessible on booking websites. If they are not listed, reach out to the property owner before booking the vacation home. Remember that most listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which usually includes pull-out couches and bunk beds.
  • Are you traveling with furry, four-legged family members? Many vacation homes allow animals, but guidelines and restrictions apply. Allowable pet type, breed, and size are often limited. Remember to ask the property manager before booking, and study your rental agreement! Additional pet fees or charges could be applied to your invoice.
  • If there's a certain New Bern destination you simply love, browse properties that are either nearby, or those that cater especially to your requirements.
  • Appropriate accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for those with limited mobility. Make certain to ask about wheel chair accessibility, pool lifts and specialized equipment needs.

More considerations for your visit:

  • Get the host's contact number and check in/check out procedures for your rental. We recommend storing the host's contact information in your smartphone.
  • Ask questions. You may want instructions for a fireplace, elevator or washer/dryer. Contact your property manager. They are there to help! A brief call can prevent a lot of concerns.
  • Ensure you protect the property owner (and your things!) by keeping the rental locked up when you are gone, just like you would back home.
  • During arrival, note any issues with the property and immediately contact the property manager. Keep records of all coorespondence.
  • Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like obnoxious visitors disrupting your peace and quiet. Use the golden rule for best judgement. If they like you, locals might even recommend great restaurants and attractions you would have never otherwise known about!
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Local residents can frequently point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to enjoy a steak with a view, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for shopping?
  • Just prior to departing, complete a final walk-through to confirm you have not forget anything. Re-check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden treasure. Clean out the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Go through the rental a final time and scan for any damage. We advise inspecting the property with the host whenever possible. If the manager is not available, remember to take pictures of the rental to record its condition.
  • Did your group have a excellent vacation? Many rental home management companies make it easy for customers to provide reviews. If your rental property and/or property management company was wonderful, they would love to hear it. If anything was imperfect and they failed to correct it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make it a point as part of your review.
