Strategies for getting the perfect New Bern vacation property experience:

Money saving strategies:

  • Booking your New Bern vacation home in Fall or Spring months is a great way to save on your vacation rental. Rental rates are lower, and you'll find a better selection of acceptable homes. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a New Bern vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday near the ocean? Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years are great times to gather with family and friends at the beach.
  • The sooner your group can reserve a vacation home, the better your selection will be. The most desirable vacation homes are reserved very early. Reserving your vacation property six to twelve months before your vacation is recommended. Winter holidays are excellent times to plan and reserve your rental home.
  • Some property managers offer discounts or promotional rates for active duty military and veterans. Check with your host or property manager to see if discounts are available for your group before you book.
  • Property managers typically offer guests an option to buy trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which commonly will cost between 1% - 5% of the reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any missed days as a result of medical-related catastrophes or weather, as well as ensuing additional evacuation costs or charges, such as an unexpected hotel overnight or additional gasoline expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a welcome relief if the unforeseen occurs. Ask the property owner for more information.
  • Look for your local New Bern area magazine when you check-in. If your rental home doesn't have one, you can find them at local grocery stores and visitor centers. In addition to great local stories, visitor guide magazines have deals for nearby tours and attractions.

Make a plan and choose your New Bern rental home:

  • First and foremost, have your group commit to the best dates and a budget.
  • Note the number bedrooms and what type of bedroom configuration your family requires. Merry Time, Oceanfront House in Pine Knoll Shores, NC! has 4 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our rental home search.
  • Precise descriptions of bedrooms and bed types is normally accessible on booking pages. If they are not listed, email or call the host before booking your rental. Remember that most properties list the maximum guest capacity, which usually includes sofa beds. You will need to work out what is right for your trip.
  • Visiting for a specific event or attraction? If so, use a map search to browse nearby properties.
  • Suitable accessibility can make or break a vacation for guests that require the use of a wheelchair. Remember to confirm all necessary amenities are included before booking
  • Some properties allow pets, and some don't. Allowable types of pet, weight and breeds may be restricted, and additional charges may apply. Ask the property management company about pets before booking.

Additional considerations:

  • Take a copy of the property manager's contact number and check in/check out procedures for your rental home. Put the host's contact information in your smartphone and wallet.
  • To ensure that damages aren't attributed to your family's stay, note any problem areas when you arrive. Make contact with the host right away to record any damages. If there is a dispute about who is responsible, having the recorded concerns and contact attempts will be useful.
  • Ask questions. You may want instructions for a fireplace, television set or thermostat. Contact your owner. They are there to help! A brief call can prevent a lot of difficulties.
  • Respecting quiet hours and parking policies can make a stay more pleasurable. Be a good neighbor. You'll magnify your chance to make some new local friends, and resident neighbors are usually a terrific source for finding the best local spots.
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Neighbors can frequently point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to enjoy a steak with a view, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for BBQ?
  • Keep your rental home locked while you are out! Don't let burglars spoil your holiday.
  • Re-check every room of the property to confirm that you've packed all belongings at departure. Check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden belongings. Clean the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Go through the property one final time and scan for any damage. We advise walking through with the host whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the manager is not available, take pictures of the property to record its condition at check-out.
  • Did you have a fantastic time? Most rental websites make it easy for guests to provide comments. If your rental and/or property management company was great, they would love to hear about it. If anything was out of order and they failed to fix it within reason, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make a note as part of your feedback.
