Tips for getting the perfect vacation rental experience:

Getting the most from your vacation rental budget:

  • In the New Bern area, The sooner you can reserve a vacation home, the better your selection will be. The best vacation homes are reserved very early. Reserving your vacation rental six to twelve months before your travel dates is recommended. Christmas, Thanksgiving and New Years Eve are excellent times to search for and book your rental home.
  • Summertime is high season in the New Bern area. To find the best value, try changing your family's New Bern trip dates to the Spring or Fall months. May, September, and even October offer great weather, fewer crowds, and reduced traffic.
  • Hosts and Property managers sometimes offer promotional rates for veterans. Remember to ask your property manager if special discounts are available for your family.
  • Management companies and individual rental owners often offer guests an option to add trip insurance. Trip insurance, which normally costs 1% - 5% of the reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed trip time as a result of personal medical-related emergencies or weather disasters, as well as evacuation costs, such as an unexpected hotel or extra gas expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a bank account-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your host for program terms and fees.
  • Find a copy of your local New Bern visitors guide magazine upon checking in. If your rental doesn't have one, you can find them at local shops and visitor centers. In addition to great articles, travel guide magazines have offers and deals for nearby restaurants, attractions, and tours.

Planning and choosing the best New Bern rental home:

  • Start by selecting vacation dates and a max budget.
  • Note the number bedrooms and the configuration your family needs. Anchor Management, Soundside House in Beautiful Emerald Isle, NC! has 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our rental home search.
  • Specific information regarding bedrooms and bed counts is regularly accessible online. If you don't see them listed, call the property manager before booking the home. Note that most property listings specify maximum guest capacity, which often includes pull-out couches and bunk beds. You will need to establish what configuration is optimal for your vacation.
  • If your family is bringing pets, you must book a pet-friendly vacation rental. Make sure to ask for information on breed, weight, and type requirements. Be aware that some property owners charge additional pet fees.
  • Visiting for a single attraction? Use a map search to find nearby properties.
  • Suitable accessibility can make or break a vacation for those with limited mobility. Confirm all necessary amenities are available and included before reserving a rental

More considerations for your visit:

  • Put the manager's contact information in your smartphone and wallet.
  • Hosts are there to help! Don't be shy to ask any questions during your stay.
  • Ensure you protect the owner (and your stuff!) by locking and securing the home while you are out, just like you would back home.
  • To make sure that damages are not linked to your family's visit, inspect for any problem areas during check in. Get in touch with the rental manager right away to relay any damages. If there is a dispute about legal responsibility later, having the recorded problems and contact attempts will be helpful.
  • Respecting quiet hours and parking rules can make a stay more pleasurable. Be a good neighbor. You will increase your chance to make some new local friends, and resident neighbors can be an incredible source for finding the best local scenic spots.
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local! Neighbors can typically help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to charter a fishing boat, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for fishing?
  • Don't leave anything behind! Before you drive away, take a walk through the property to confirm you've collected all personal items. Re-check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden belongings. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Inspect the property one final time and keep an eye out for damages to contents or the property itself. We advise walking through with the property manager whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the property manager is not available, ensure that you take photos of the rental to record its condition.
  • Did your group have a wonderful time? Most rental home management companies make it easy for travelers to provide comments. If your rental and/or property manager was fantastic, they would love to hear it. If anything was wrong and they failed to fix it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make it a point as part of your review.
