Vacation rental tips:
When to book a New Bern rental & When to go:
- Summer months are high season in the New Bern area. Booking in Spring or Fall is our favorite way to save money on your vacation. Rates are lower, and you'll find a larger selection of desirable homes.
- Book your vacation rental as soon as possible. Rental schedules usually become available a year in advance (or in September just after Summertime ends). Many groups reserve their Summer rental homes during Winter holiday get-togethers. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
- Property management companies sometimes offer special rates for veterans and active duty military. Make sure to check with your property manager to see if special discounts are available for your group before you book.
- Property management companies usually offer customers an option to purchase vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which commonly will cost you 1% - 5% of the reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed time as a result of medical-related issues or weather disasters, as well as hurricane evacuation charges, such as an unexpected hotel or additional gas expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a welcome relief if the unforeseen happens. Ask your host for details.
- Look for your local New Bern area magazine when you arrive at the rental property. If your rental property doesn't have one, you can find them at local grocery stores and visitor centers. In addition to great information, travel guide magazines have coupons for local restaurants, attractions, and tours.
Selecting and booking the perfectrental:
- Start by selecting trip dates and a max budget.
- Decide how many beds and what type of bedroom configuration your family requires. Updated beach cottage with enclosed patio, 2 decks, grill, AC, & W\/D has 3 bedrooms and 1 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our search.
- Precise information about bedrooms and bed types is often accessible on booking websites. If they are not listed, email the property manager before booking your home. Note that most property listings specify the max. guest capacity, which oftentimes includes pull out couches in living rooms. You will need to determine what is optimal for your vacation group.
- Are you visiting for a single event or attraction? Use a map search to browse nearby rentals.
- Suitable accessibility can make or break a vacation for persons with disabilities. Remember to confirm all required amenities are available before booking
- If your group is vacationing with pets, you must reserve a pet-friendly rental. Make sure to ask for information on breed, size, and type restrictions. Note that some property owners charge additional pet fees.
Advice for a great stay:
- Be sure you get the owner's phone number and arrival/departure procedures for your rental. Put the host's information in your smartphone.
- At Check-in, note any damages to the rental property and immediately contact the host. Keep records of all correspondence in case a dispute arises.
- Hosts are there to help! Don't be shy to ask any questions during your stay.
- Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking rules can make a stay significantly more pleasurable. Be a good neighbor. You will enhance your chance to make some new local friends, and resident neighbors can be a fantastic resource to find the best local scenic spots.
- Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Local residents can typically help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to get the best seafood, have a great night out, or the best spots for fishing?
- Lock your rental while you're out and about. Protect your property!
- Don't leave anything behind! Just before departing, walk through the rental to make sure you've collected all belongings. Remember to check dressers, closets, and bathrooms for hidden belongings. Clean out the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Walk through the property a final time and look for any damage. We advise walking through with the property manager whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the host is not available, remember to take video of the property to record its condition at check-out.
- After your trip, leave a review! Hosts rely on good reviews to stimulate future reservations. They'll be grateful for your review. Alternatively, if something wasn't as described, other families will will be grateful for your review find their best rental home. Please be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the property manager could control the issue, and if so, whether they responded expeditiously to remedy it.
