Tips and Tricks to get the optimal New Bern vacation property experience:

Get the most from your spending budget:

  • Summer is high season in the New Bern area. Reserve your vacation home in the Fall or Spring to get the benefit of beautiful weather while saving money and avoiding crowded roads, restaurants, and activities. Many vacationers use this method to find larger homes within budget, or to book an oceanfront vacation rental that would otherwise be unavailable during the Summer.
  • In the New Bern area, The earlier your group can reserve a vacation home, the easier your search will be. The most desirable rental properties are booked early. Reserving your rental property 6-12 months before your vacation is recommended. Christmas, Thanksgiving and New Years Eve are excellent times to search for and book your rental home.
  • Some owners offer discounts for active duty military and veterans. Check with your property manager to see if special offers are available for your group before you book.
  • Management companies and individual rental owners usually offer renters an option to buy trip insurance. Trip insurance, which usually will cost anywhere between 1% - 5% of the base reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any days missed as a result of personal medical-related catastrophes or weather disasters, as well as evacuation costs, such as an unexpected hotel or additional gasoline expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a bank account-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your host for more information.
  • Often, rental management companies and vacation rental houses supply New Bern area travel guide magazines that include special offers, either offered directly by local businesses, or through a partnership between the management company and the business itself. You can also find New Bern visitors guide magazine and coupon books at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers.

Make a plan and pick your prefectrental home:

  • Begin by choosing the best vacation week and a spending budget.
  • Decide how many bedrooms and what type of bedroom configuration you need. Third-floor courtyard condo with balcony, WiFi, pools, hot tub & putt-putt has 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our search.
  • Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed counts & types is usually available on booking websites. If they are not listed, email or call the property management company before booking the rental. Remember that most properties list maximum guest capacity, which usually includes pull-out couches.
  • Is your group looking for special amenities? Most rental websites include search filters with amenity lists. Use these to your advantage to find the perfect rental home.
  • Proper accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for those with limited mobility. .
  • Are you traveling with furry, four-legged family members? Although a number of vacation homes allow pets or animals, guidelines and costs vary per property. Type of pet, size and breeds may be limited. Remember to ask your host before booking, and study your agreement thoroughly! Additional pet fees or charges applied to your agreement.

Have a great stay:

  • Add the host's contact information to your phone. Take a copy of check in/check out procedures.
  • Document any damages to the rental upon arrival, and immediately contact the owner. We specifically recommend e-mails and text messages, as they usually contain built-in time stamps that can be helpful if a dispute arises.
  • Ask questions. You may need instructions for a hot tub, elevator or coffee maker. Contact your property manager. They are there to help! A brief call prevents many difficulties.
  • Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like obnoxious vacationers disrupting your peaceful home. Apply the golden rule for best judgement. Happy residents may even recommend great restaurants and scenic spots you would've never otherwise known about!
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Neighbors can typically help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to book the best tours, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for fishing?
  • Keep the property locked while you are gone! Don't let thieves ruin your vacation.
  • Double-check the vacation property to confirm that you've packed all of your family's items at departure. Re-check garages, decks, and cabinets for hidden treasure. Clean out the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Walk through the property one final time and scan for damage. We advise inspecting the property with the property manager whenever possible. If the manager isn't available, ensure that you take photos and video of the rental to record its condition.
  • Did you have a terrific stay? Many vacation rental websites make it easy for clients to provide feedback. If your property and/or property management company was wonderful, they will likely appreciate your kind words. If anything was wrong and they failed to correct it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make a note as part of your review.
