How to get the best vacation property experience:

Getting the best rental home value:

  • To get the best value, consider shifting your family's New Bern vacation dates to the Spring or Fall months. May, September, and October offer excellent temperatures, , and greatly reduced traffic. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a New Bern vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday on the coast? Thanksgiving and Christmas are great times to gather with friends and family at the beach.
  • Book your vacation rental as soon as possible. Rental schedules often become available a year in advance (or in September just after the Summer season ends). Many groups book their Summer vacation rentals during Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years Eve get-togethers. Book before these holidays for best selection.
  • Some hosts and property managers offer rate reductions for veterans and active duty military. Ask your property manager if special offers are available for your group before you book.
  • Booking websites typically offer renters an option to purchase vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which generally costs 1% - 5% of the base stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for missed vacation time as a result of medical-related issues or weather, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation costs, such as an unanticipated hotel or additional gas expenses. Trip insurance can be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen happens. Ask your property manager for additional information.
  • Look for your local New Bern visitors guide when you arrive at the rental property. If your rental home doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local shops and visitor centers. In addition to great information, travel guides have coupons for local tours and attractions.

Choosing the perfect vacation home in the New Bern area:

  • Select a group lead, choose your vacation week, and select a maximum budget.
  • Note the number bedrooms and the bed configuration your family needs. Secluded waterfront home that is 5 min away from downtown Beaufort has 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms.
  • Specific information about bedrooms and bed counts is usually accessible on booking pages. If not, reach out to the property management company before reserving your rental. Note that most properties list the max. guest capacity, which usually includes pull-out couches. You'll need to work out what bed configuration is best for your vacation family.
  • Looking for specific amenities? Most rental search websites include amenity lists and search filters. Use these filters to your advantage to find the perfect rental home.
  • Appropriate accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for persons with disabilities. Confirm all necessary amenities are included before reserving a rental
  • Some rentals allow pets, but some don't. Allowable types of pet, weight and breeds may be restricted, and additional charges may apply. Ask the owner about pets before booking.

Advice for a wonderful stay:

  • Add the host's contact information to your phone. Take a copy of check in/check out procedures.
  • Make a record of any issues with the property upon arrival, and immediately send them to the owner. We especially recommend texts and e-mails, as they usually contain time stamps that are very helpful if damages are attributed to your stay.
  • Ask questions. You may want instructions for a fireplace, stereo or WIFI setup. Contact your owner. They are there to help! A brief phone call can prevent quite a few problems.
  • Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like unpleasant vacationers disrupting your home life. Apply the golden rule for best judgement. If they like you, locals might even recommend great local food and places you would have never otherwise known about!
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Residents can typically help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to grab the best tacos, have a great night out, or the best spots for crabbing?
  • Lock your vacation home while you are out and about. Protect the owner's property and your things!
  • Don't leave anything behind! Just before you drive away, take a walk through the rental to reconfirm you've collected all of your things. Check closets, dressers, garages, and bathrooms for hidden treasure. Clean out the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Record a video to document the condition of the property.
  • Did your group have a terrific stay? Many rental websites make it easy for guests to provide comments. If your rental and/or host was fantastic, they always love to hear your praise. If anything was imperfect and they failed to address it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make a note as part of your review.
