Strategies for getting the best vacation property experience:

Sticking to your rental budget:

  • Summertime is the most expensive season in Pine Knoll Shores. To find the most suitable rental within your budget, we highly recommend reserving in the Fall or Spring. You'll benefit from lower rental rates, better selection, warm weather and the absence of giant crowds at restaurants, beaches, and activities. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a New Bern vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday near the ocean? Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years are great times to gather with friends and family at the beach.
  • The earlier you can book a rental home, the easier your search will be. The most desirable vacation rentals are reserved very early. Reserving your vacation property six - twelve months before your vacation dates is recommended. Christmas, Thanksgiving and New Years Eve are excellent times to plan and reserve your rental home.
  • Some hosts offer rate reductions for veterans. Make sure to check with your property manager to see if special offers are available for your family.
  • Property managers frequently offer their guests an option to purchase vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which costs anywhere between 1% - 5% of the base reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for missed trip time as a result of personal medical-related emergencies or weather disasters, as well as hurricane evacuation costs or charges, such as an unexpected hotel stay or extra gas expenses. Trip insurance might be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your host for details.
  • Find a copy of your local New Bern visitors guide magazine upon arrival. If your rental property doesn't have one, you can find them at local grocery stores and visitor centers. In addition to great local information, travel guides have discounts for nearby accommodations, tours and attractions.

Use filters to search efficiently:

  • Select a group lead, choose your vacation week, and select a max budget.
  • Note the number beds and the bed configuration your family needs. Totally remodeled and walking distance to private beach and sound access! has 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms.
  • Specific information regarding bedrooms and bed counts is often available online. If they are not listed, email the host before booking the rental. Note that most property listings specify the max. guest capacity, which oftentimes includes sofa beds and bunks.
  • Is your family looking for particular amenities? Most rental search websites include amenity lists and search filters. Use these filters to your advantage to find the perfect rental home.
  • Appropriate accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for those with limited mobility. .
  • Some rentals allow pets, but some do not. Acceptable types of pet, size and breeds may be restricted, and added costs may apply. Ask your host about allowable breeds and types before booking.

Considerations for your stay:

  • Add the owner's contact info to your smartphone. Take a copy of check in/check out procedures.
  • During check-in, note any damages to the property and immediately alert the property manager. Record all correspondence just in case a dispute arises.
  • Ask questions. You may want instructions for a fireplace, elevator or thermostat. Contact your owner. They are there to help! A brief call can prevent many difficulties.
  • Respecting quiet hours and parking policies can make a stay more pleasurable. Be a good neighbor. You'll magnify your chance to make some new local friends, and resident neighbors are often a great source for finding the best local spots.
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Locals can frequently help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to find the fresh catch of the day, have a great night out, or the best spots for bird watching?
  • Keep your rental home locked while you are away! Don't let crooks spoil your vacation.
  • Just prior to departing, complete a final walk-through to confirm you have not forget any personal items. Remember to check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden items. Clean the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Inspect the rental one final time and scan for damages to contents or the property itself. We advise inspecting the property with the host whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the host is not available, ensure that you take video and pictures of the property to record its condition.
  • After your trip, leave feedback! Property owners rely on great ratings to inspire new bookings. They'll be thankful for your review. Alternatively, if something wasn't right, other vacationing families will be thankful you shared your feedback and help them have the best future vacation. Please be fair with your feedback If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the owner had any control over the issue, and if so, whether they responded quickly to fix it.
