Tips to get the perfect vacation rental experience:
How to get the best rental home value:
- Reserve your rental as early as possible. Rental schedules often open twelve months in advance (or in September just after the Summer season ends). Many groups book their Summer rentals during holiday gatherings. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
- To get the best value, try changing your family's New Bern vacation dates to the Spring or Fall months. May, September, and even October offer warmer temperatures, , and greatly reduced traffic. Many vacationers use this method to reserve larger homes, or to book an oceanfront vacation rental that would otherwise be unavailable or unaffordable during June, July, and August.
- Veterans and Active Duty Military members may be qualified for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property management company or host whether your family qualifies for a special rate.
- Management companies and individual rental owners frequently offer guests an option to obtain trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which usually will cost between 1% - 5% of the booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for missed time as a result of personal medical-related catastrophes or weather, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation costs, such as an unexpected hotel or extra gas expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a life-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask the property owner for additional information.
- Find a copy of your local visitors guide upon arrival. If your rental home doesn't have one, you can find them at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers. In addition to great local articles, travel guides have offers and deals for nearby tours, shops, and attractions.
Narrow your rental Search:
- Begin by choosing your the best vacation week and a spending budget.
- Determine how many beds and what type of bedroom configuration your family needs. 1st Floor Unit With Ocean View, Swimming Pool, Elevators has 3 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms.
- Precise information regarding bedrooms and bed counts & types is commonly accessible on booking websites. If they are not listed, email or call the property manager before you book the home. Remember that most properties list the max. guest capacity, which usually includes pull-out couches. You'll need to work out what is optimal for your group.
- Traveling with pets? Many vacation homes allow animals, but guidelines and restrictions apply. Type of pet, size and breeds may be limited. Make sure to ask before booking, and study your rental agreement! Pet fees or charges applied to your invoice.
- Are you looking for unique amenities? Most websites include amenity lists and search filters.
- Appropriate accessibility can make or break a vacation for the less-mobile. Remember to confirm all required amenities are available before reserving a rental
More considerations:
- Add the owner's contact info to your smartphone. Understand and take a copy of check in/check out procedures.
- Ask questions. You may want instructions for a garage door opener, elevator or appliance. Contact your host. They are there to help! A brief telephone call prevents a lot of problems.
- Ensure you protect the owner (and your things!) by keeping the rental locked up when you are gone, just like you would back home.
- To make certain no damages are attributed to your family's stay, inspect for any problem areas upon check in. Contact the host immediately to relay any issues. If there is a dispute, having a record of problems and contact attempts will be valuable.
- Be respectful. Often times, surrounding homes are occupied by permanent residents. Respecting late-night noise limits and parking rules is the right thing to do.
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Residents can usually help. Who better to ask where to enjoy a steak with a view, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for crabbing?
- At departure, take a final walk-through to make sure you haven't forget any personal items. Re-check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden belongings. Clean out the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Document the condition of the property at check-out. We recommend taking a video during your final walk-through.
- Did you have a wonderful time? Most rental websites make it easy for customers to provide reviews. If your rental property and/or host was wonderful, they would love to hear about it. If anything was defective and they failed to address it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make it a point as part of your comments.
