How to find the best vacation rental experience:
Find your perfect vacation home:
- Book your New Bern vacation home in Spring or Fall to enjoy warm weather while saving money and avoiding crowds. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a New Bern vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation on the coast? Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years are great times to gather with loved ones at the beach.
- Book your rental as soon as possible. Rental schedules generally open twelve months in advance (or in September just after Summertime ends). Many families book their Summer vacation rentals during Thanksgiving and Christmas get-togethers. Book before these holidays for best selection.
- Property management companies sometimes offer promotional rates for veterans. It's always a good idea to check with your property manager to see if special offers are available for your family before you book.
- Booking websites frequently offer renters an option to purchase vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which commonly will cost you between 1% - 5% of the stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any missed time as a result of medical-related issues or weather, as well as hurricane evacuation costs or charges, such as an unexpected hotel overnight or extra gas expenses. Trip insurance might be a a life-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask the property owner for more information.
- Find a copy of your local New Bern visitors guide magazine when you arrive at the rental property. If your rental doesn't have one, you can find them at local shops and fuel stations. In addition to great local articles, visitor guide magazines have money saving offers on nearby accommodations, restaurants and tours.
Use filters to narrow your search:
- Choose a group leader, choose your dates, and select a max budget.
- Note the number beds and the configuration your group needs. Prior Engagement: Pet Friendly Beach Cottage at Emerald Isle on The Point has 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms.
- Precise descriptions of bedrooms and bed types is often accessible online. Otherwise, contact the property manager before you book your rental. Note that most listings specify the max. guest capacity, which usually includes sofa beds and bunks. You'll need to work out what is best for your group.
- Are you looking for unique amenities? Most rental search websites include search filters with amenity lists. Use these to your advantage to find the perfect rental home.
- Suitable accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for guests with disabilities. Confirm all necessary amenities are available and included before reserving a rental.
- Are you bringing the family pet? Although a number of vacation homes allow pets or animals, guidelines and costs vary per property. Allowable pet type, breed, and size are often limited. Make sure to ask before booking, and study your agreement thoroughly! Additional fees or charges may be applied to your invoice.
More considerations for your visit:
- Be sure you get the property manager's phone number and arrival/departure procedures for your rental.
- Record any issues with the rental during check in, and immediately e-mail them to the property manager. We specifically recommend e-mails and text messages, as they usually contain built-in time stamps that are valuable if there is a dispute.
- Property managers are available to help! Feel free to ask questions during your stay.
- Be respectful. Often, surrounding homes are occupied by permanent residents. Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking policies can make a stay significantly more pleasurable.
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Local residents can often point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to get the best seafood, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for BBQ?
- Lock your rental home while you are out. Keep your property safe!
- Re-check the vacation property to confirm that you've packed all of your family's items at check-out. Re-check closets, dressers, garages, and bathrooms for hidden items. Clean the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Go through the rental a final time and look for any damage. We suggest walking through with the host whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the manager is not available, take video of the rental to record its condition at check-out.
- Did your group have a great vacation? Most rental managers make it easy for vacationers to provide comments. If your rental and/or property management company was wonderful, they will likely appreciate your kind words. If anything was inoperable and they failed to correct it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make a note as part of your review.
