Strategies to get the optimal New Bern rental home experience:
Finding your best deal:
- To find the best value, consider changing your group's vacation to the Spring or Fall seasons. May, September, and even October offer excellent weather, less crowded beaches, and greatly reduced traffic.
- Book your vacation home as early as possible. Rental schedules usually open 12 months in advance (or in September just after Summer ends). Many families reserve their Summer vacations during holiday get-togethers. Book before these holidays for best selection.
- Veterans and Active Duty Military members may be qualified for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective vacation rental company or host whether your family qualifies for a price reduction or discount.
- Property managers typically offer renters an option to purchase vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which normally costs anywhere between 1% - 5% of the base reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for missed days as a result of medical-related issues or weather, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation charges, such as an unexpected hotel or extra gasoline expenses. Trip insurance can be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your property manager for specifics.
- Look for your local New Bern area magazine upon arrival. If your rental home doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local shops and visitor centers. In addition to great local information, visitor guides contain coupons for nearby restaurants, attractions, and tours.
Use filters to narrow your search:
- Choose your dates and spending budget.
- Determine how many beds and the bed configuration your group needs. Welcome to Xanadu East, your home away from home! has 4 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms.
- Precise descriptions of bedrooms and bed counts is regularly accessible on booking websites. If you don't see them listed, contact the host before you reserve the rental. Remember that most property listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which usually includes sofa beds and bunks.
- If there's a certain New Bern destination you love, keep an eye out for rentals that are either near by, or those that cater especially to your desires.
- Proper accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for guests with disabilities. .
- Some properties allow pets, but others do not. Acceptable types of family pet, size and breeds may be restricted, and added charges may apply. Ask the property management company about allowable pet guidelines before booking.
Know before you go:
- Be sure you get the property manager's phone number and entry/exit procedures for your rental home.
- To make sure that damages are not linked to your family's stay, inspect for any problem areas upon your arrival. Get in touch with the property manager right away to report any issues. If there is a dispute about who is responsible, having a record of issues and contact attempts will be very helpful.
- Property managers are there to help! Feel free to ask questions during your stay.
- Respect your neighbors. Often times, nearby homes are filled by local residents. Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking policies is the right thing to do.
- Don't forget to... Ask a local! Residents can often help. Who better to ask where to get the best seafood, have a great night out, or the best spots for fine dining?
- Lock your rental while you're out. Protect the owner's property and your things!
- When it's time to leave, take a walk-through to confirm you haven't leave anything behind. Check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden treasure. Clean the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Document the condition of the property at check-out. We recommend taking a video during your final walk-through.

Alternatively, if something wasn't right, other families will will be grateful for your review find their best vacation rental. Please be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the host had any control over the issue, and if so, whether they responded reasonably to solve it.
