Booking the best Emerald Isle vacation home experience:

Get the most from your rental home budget:

  • Booking your vacation rental in Spring or Fall is our favorite way to save money on your rental home. Rates are lower, and you'll find a larger selection of desirable properties. Many vacationers use this strategy to find larger homes within budget, or to book an oceanfront vacation rental that would otherwise be unaffordable during June, July, and August.
  • The sooner your group can reserve a home, the easier your search will be. The most desirable vacation rentals are reserved early. Reserving your vacation property six - twelve months before your vacation dates is recommended. Holidays such as Christmas and Thanksgiving are excellent times to search for and book your vacation home.
  • Property management companies sometimes offer discounts for active duty military and veterans. It's always a good idea to check with your property manager to see if special offers are available for your family before you book.
  • Property managers typically offer renters an option to add trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which will generally cost anywhere between 1% - 5% of the base reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for days missed as a result of medical-related catastrophes or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation costs, such as an unanticipated hotel stay or additional gas expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a bank account-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your property manager for more information.
  • Often, management companies supply New Bern area visitors guide magazines that include special offers, either offered directly by local businesses, or through a relationship between the property management company and the business itself. You can also find New Bern visitors guide magazine and coupon books at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers.

Narrow your Search:

  • Begin by selecting potential vacation weeks and a maximum budget.
  • Note the number bedrooms and what type of bedroom configuration your group needs. Oceanfront views galore, steps from beach and pool has 4 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms.
  • Specific details about bedrooms and bed types is normally accessible on booking websites. If not, reach out to the property owner before booking the home. Note that most listings specify maximum guest capacity, which usually includes sofa beds in living rooms. You'll need to determine what is best for your group.
  • Is your group looking for special amenities? Most rental websites include search filters for amenities.
  • Proper accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for the less-mobile. Make certain to ask about wheel chair accessibility, pool lifts and specialized equipment needs.
  • Are you bringing the family pet? Many vacation homes allow animals, but guidelines and restrictions apply. Allowable pet type, breed, and size are often limited. Ask your property manager before booking, and study your agreement thoroughly! Additional pet fees or may be applied to your invoice.

More tips for your stay:

  • Be sure you get the host's contact number and check in/check out procedures for your rental. Put the manager's contact information in your smartphone and wallet.
  • Upon arrival, record any damages to the property and immediately contact the owner. Keep records of all correspondence in case a dispute arises.
  • Hosts are there to help! Feel free to ask questions during your stay.
  • Don't forget to respect your neighbors. Often, nearby homes are filled by local residents. Respecting noise limits and parking policies can make a stay significantly more pleasurable.
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Local residents can typically help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to book the best tours, have a great night out, or the best spots for crabbing?
  • Keep your rental home locked while you're away! Don't let thieves spoil your family vacation.
  • Don't leave anything behind! Before departing, walk through the rental property to make sure you've collected all personal items. Make sure to check garages, decks, and cabinets for hidden belongings. Clean the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Inspect the property one final time and keep an eye out for damage. We advise inspecting the property with the property manager whenever possible. If the host is not available, take video of the property to record its condition.
  • Did your family have a fantastic stay? Many vacation rental websites make it easy for customers to provide reviews. If your rental property and/or property management company was terrific, they would love to hear about it. If anything was amiss and they failed to correct it within reason, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make it a point as part of your comments.
