Strategies to get the perfect New Bern rental experience:
How to get the best rental value:
- The sooner your group can book a vacation rental, the better your selection will be. The best properties are booked very early. Reserving your rental home six to twelve months before your travel dates is recommended. Christmas, Thanksgiving and New Years Eve are excellent times to search for and book your rental property.
- Reserve your rental home in the Fall or Spring to enjoy beautiful weather while saving money and avoiding crowds. Many vacationers use this method to find larger homes within budget, or to book a beach front vacation rental that would otherwise be unavailable or unaffordable during the Summer months.
- Some hosts and property managers offer discounts for veterans. Remember to ask your property manager if special offers are available for your family before you book.
- Management companies and individual rental owners frequently offer customers an option to buy vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which usually will cost you between 1% - 5% of the base booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any missed trip time as a result of medical-related catastrophes or weather disasters, as well as hurricane evacuation charges, such as an unexpected hotel stay or additional fuel expenses. Trip insurance can be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen happens. Ask your host for details.
- Find a copy of your local New Bern visitors guide when you arrive at the rental property. If your rental property doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local shops and fuel stations. In addition to great articles, travel guide magazines contain money saving offers on nearby accommodations and attractions.
Make a plan and choose the bestvacation home:
- Start by selecting vacation dates and a max budget.
- Determine how many bedrooms and the bed configuration you need. Upstairs portion of beautiful 2nd-row duplex with ocean view, central AC, & WiFi has 4 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms.
- Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed types is commonly accessible online. Otherwise, email or call the host before you reserve the home. Remember that most property listings specify the max. guest capacity, which oftentimes includes pull-out couches and bunk beds. You will need to work out what configuration is suitable for your family.
- Are you bringing the family pet? Although a number of vacation homes allow pets or animals, guidelines and costs vary per property. Type of pet, size and breeds may be limited. Remember to ask the property manager before booking, and study your agreement thoroughly! Additional fees or charges could be applied to your agreement.
- If there's a particular New Bern attraction you love, keep an eye out for rentals that are either near by, or those that cater especially to your requirements.
- Appropriate accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for the less-mobile. Make certain to inquire about wheel chair entry, pool lifts and specialized equipment needs.
Have a wonderful stay:
- Get the host's phone number and check in/check out procedures for your rental property. We recommend storing the host's contact information in your smartphone.
- Ask questions. You may need instructions for a fireplace, intercom or WIFI setup. Contact your property manager. They are there to help! A brief telephone call prevents a lot of problems.
- Ensure you protect the rental owner (and your stuff!) by locking the rental while you are out, just like you would at home.
- Record any issues with the rental during check in, and immediately e-mail them to the property manager. We specifically recommend e-mails and text messages, as they usually contain time stamps that can be helpful if there is a dispute.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like loud visitors bothering your home life. Apply the golden rule for common sense. If they like you, locals might even recommend great restaurants and attractions you would've never otherwise known!
- Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Residents can often help. Who better to ask where to find the best seashells, have a great night out, or the best spots for shopping?
- At departure, take a walk-through to make sure you have not forget anything. Remember to check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden treasure. Clean out the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Record a video to document the condition of the property.
- Did you have a terrific stay? Many rental websites make it easy for guests to provide comments. If your rental property and/or host was fantastic, they would love to hear it. If anything was imperfect and they failed to correct it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make it a point as part of your comments.
