Vacation rental booking tips and tricks:

Getting the best rental home value:

  • Book your vacation rental as soon as possible. Rental schedules often become available a year in advance (or in September just after the Summer season ends). Many groups reserve their Summer vacation rentals during Thanksgiving and Christmas get-togethers. Book before these holidays for best selection.
  • Summer is high season in the New Bern area. Booking in Spring or Fall is an excellent way to save money on your rental home. Rates are lower, and you'll find a better selection of acceptable properties. Many vacationers use this strategy to reserve larger homes, or to book an oceanfront rental that would otherwise be unavailable or unaffordable during the Summer months. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a New Bern vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday on the coast? Christmas, Thanksgiving, and New Years Eve are great times to gather with family and friends at your favorite beach.
  • Property managers sometimes offer discounts for veterans. Make sure to check with your host or property manager to see if special offers are available for your group before you book.
  • Management companies and individual rental owners frequently offer guests an option to obtain trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which normally will cost anywhere between 1% - 5% of the reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for missed time as a result of medical-related emergencies or weather, as well as hurricane evacuation costs or charges, such as an unanticipated hotel overnight or extra gas expenses. Trip insurance can be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your property manager for additional information.
  • Often, management companies supply New Bern area visitors guide magazines which often include money-saving offers, either offered directly by local companies, or through a relationship between the management company and the business itself. You can also find New Bern area magazine and coupon books at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers.

Narrow your Search:

  • Start by selecting trip dates and a maximum budget.
  • Decide how many beds and the configuration your group requires. HOT SUMMER DEAL! CAN'T STAY A WEEK? 3 NIGHT MINIMUM, YES EVEN IN THE SUMMER!! has 2 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our search.
  • Precise information about bedrooms and bed types is normally accessible on booking pages. If you don't see them listed, reach out to the property management company before you book the home. Remember that most listings specify maximum guest capacity, which oftentimes includes pull-out couches and bunk beds.
  • If your group is traveling with pets, search for a pet-friendly rental. Ask for details on breed, size, and type requirements. Some property managers charge pet deposits and fees.
  • If there's an individual New Bern destination you long to visit, search for homes that are either near by, or those that cater especially to your needs.
  • Suitable accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for guests that require the use of a wheelchair. .

Advice for a smooth stay:

  • We recommend storing the manager's information in your smartphone and wallet.
  • Ask questions. You may want instructions for a fireplace, elevator or thermostat. Contact your host. They are there to help! A brief text message can prevent lots of issues.
  • Lock your vacation home while you're away. Keep your property safe!
  • During arrival, make note of any issues with the rental property and immediately contact the host. Keep records of all coorespondence.
  • Respect your neighbors. Frequently, adjacent homes are occupied by local residents. Respecting late-night noise limits and parking rules can make a stay significantly more pleasurable.
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Residents can frequently point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to go for the best drinks, have a great night out, or the best spots for fishing?
  • Don't leave anything behind! Just before departing, walk through the rental property to reconfirm you've collected everything. Make sure to check dressers, closets, and bathrooms for hidden treasure. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Please make sure to walk through the rental one final time and look for any damage. We advise walking through with the property manager whenever possible. If the host is not available, remember to take photographs of the rental to record its condition.
  • Remember to leave feedback! Property owners rely on great feedback to stimulate new bookings. They'll be much obliged for your review. Alternatively, if something wasn't as described, other vacationing families will will be grateful for your experience and help them have the best future vacation. Remember to be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the owner had any control over the issue, and if so, whether they responded reasonably to remedy it.
