Strategies to get the best vacation property experience:

Finding your perfect rental home:

  • Reserve your rental as soon as possible. Rental schedules generally open a year in advance (or in September just after the Summer season ends). Many groups book their Summer rentals during holiday get-togethers. Book before these holidays for best selection.
  • To get the best rental within budget, we suggest reserving in Fall or Spring months. You'll benefit from lower rates, greater selection, gorgeous weather and the absence of giant crowds at popular attractions and restaurants. Many vacationers use this method to find larger homes within budget, or to reserve an oceanfront vacation rental that would otherwise be unavailable or unaffordable during the Summer.
  • Owners sometimes offer special rates for veterans. Ask your property manager if discounts are available for your family.
  • Property management companies usually offer their guests an option to add vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which commonly costs 1% - 5% of the base booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for missed days as a result of medical-related emergencies or weather, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation costs, such as an unanticipated hotel stay or additional fuel expenses. Trip insurance might be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your host for details.
  • Look for your local New Bern visitors guide magazine when you check-in. If your rental home doesn't have one, you can find them at local shops and visitor centers. In addition to great articles, visitors guides have discounts for nearby accommodations, tours and attractions.

How to select the perfect rental in Atlantic Beach:

  • Choose your dates and max budget.
  • Note the number beds and the bed configuration your family needs. Newly Remodeled Charming Beach Cottage with Private Pool in Historic Salter Path has 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms.
  • Precise information about bedrooms and bed counts is often accessible on booking websites. If not, contact the property management company before reserving the vacation home. Note that most property listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which frequently includes pull-out couches. You'll need to determine what bed configuration is right for your vacation family.
  • Some rental properties allow pets, and others don't. Acceptable types of pet, size and breeds may be restricted, and additional fees may apply. Ask the host about pets before booking.
  • If there's a specific New Bern attraction you long to visit, browse homes that are either close by, or those that cater especially to your requirements.
  • Appropriate accessibility can make or break a vacation for the less-mobile. Confirm all required amenities are included before reserving a rental

More tips for your stay:

  • Store the manager's information in your smartphone.
  • Ask questions. You may need instructions for a hot tub, stereo or washer/dryer. Contact your owner. They are there to help! A brief call prevents many problems.
  • Protect the owner (and your stuff!) by locking and securing the home when you are away, just like you would at home.
  • Record any damages to the property at check in, and immediately contact the host. We specifically recommend texts and e-mails, as they usually contain built-in time stamps that can be beneficial if a dispute is filed.
  • Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like obnoxious vacationers disrupting your peace. Employ the golden rule for best judgement. If they like you, locals might even recommend great local food and attractions you would've not otherwise known!
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Residents can typically help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to order delicious takeout, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for crabbing?
  • Don't leave anything behind! Before departing, take a walk through the property to make sure you've collected all of your things. Make sure to check dressers, closets, and bathrooms for hidden treasure. Clean the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Go through the rental one final time and look for damages to contents or the property itself. We advise inspecting the property with the property manager whenever you can. If the property manager isn't available, remember to take photos of the property to record its condition at check-out.
  • Leave a review! Property owners rely on great feedback to stimulate new bookings. They'll be thankful for your review. Alternatively, if something went awry, other vacationing families will will be grateful for your feedback find their best vacation rental. Please be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the owner had any control over the issue, and if so, whether they responded quickly to remedy it.
