Vacation rental home tips:
Get the most from your rental budget:
- The sooner you can reserve a home, the easier your search will be. The best rental properties are reserved early. Reserving your vacation home up to 12 months before your travel dates is recommended. Holidays such as Christmas and Thanksgiving are excellent times to plan and reserve your vacation rental.
- June, July, and August are the most expensive months along the coast of NC. Booking a rental in the Fall or Spring shoulder seasons is our favorite way to save money on your rental home. Rates are lower, and you'll find a better selection of acceptable properties. Many vacationers use this method to reserve larger homes, or to reserve a beach front rental that would otherwise be unavailable during the Summer months.
- Hosts sometimes offer rate reductions for veterans. Ask your host or property manager if discounts are available for your group before you book.
- Property management companies often offer customers an option to purchase trip insurance. Trip insurance, which commonly costs anywhere between 1% - 5% of the stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for missed vacation time as a result of personal medical-related emergencies or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation costs, such as an unexpected hotel or additional gasoline expenses. Trip insurance can be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen happens. Ask your property manager for additional information.
- Look for your local New Bern area magazine when you check-in. If your rental home doesn't have one, you can find them at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers. In addition to great local articles, visitor guides have money saving offers on local attractions, tours, restaurants, and shops.
Make a plan and pick your prefect New Bern rental home:
- Begin by selecting a vacation week and a maximum budget.
- Determine how many bedrooms and what type of bedroom configuration your group requires. 20% Off Early Bird June, July, Aug! Book Now! Fantastic Views and on the Water! has 4 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms.
- Specific details about bedrooms and bed counts is regularly accessible on booking pages. If you don't see them listed, call the property management company before you book the home. Remember that most property listings specify maximum guest capacity, which often includes sofa beds in living rooms. You will need to establish what configuration is best for your vacation group.
- If your group is bringing pets, search for a pet-friendly rental. Get specifics on breed, size, and type restrictions. Often, property owners require additional pet deposits and fees.
- Are you looking for specific amenities? Most websites include search filters for amenities. Amenity filters help you quickly remove less-optimal properties.
- Proper accessibility can make or break a vacation for persons with a disability. Confirm all required amenities are included before reserving a rental
More considerations for your visit:
- Put the owner's contact information in your smartphone and wallet.
- Hosts are great sources of help! Feel free to ask any questions before, during, or after your stay.
- Lock your vacation home while you're away. Keep your property safe!
- Document any issues with the rental at check in, and immediately e-mail them to the owner. We especially recommend texts and e-mails, as they usually contain time stamps that are useful if damages are assessed.
- Be respectful. Often times, nearby homes are filled by local residents. Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking policies reduces conflict and allows everyone to enjoy their day.
- Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Residents can often point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to get the best breakfast in town, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for bird watching?
- Double-check every room of the vacation property to confirm that you've packed all of your belongings on check-out day. Check garages, decks, and cabinets for hidden treasure. Clean the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Walk through the rental one final time and keep an eye out for damages to contents or the property itself. We recommend inspecting the property with the property manager whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the property manager is not available, take photos of the rental to record its condition.
- Remember to leave feedback! Property managers rely on excellent ratings to propel future bookings. They'll be much obliged for your feedback. Alternatively, if something wasn't as described, other vacationing families will appreciate that you share your feedback find their best vacation home. Please be fair with your feedback If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the manager had any control over the issue, and if so, whether they responded reasonably to solve it.
