Strategies to get the very best rental experience:
Cost saving strategies:
- Reserve your vacation home as soon as possible. Rental schedules often open twelve months in advance (or in September just after the Summer season ends). Many groups book their Summer rentals during Christmas and Thanksgiving get-togethers. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
- Book your rental home in the Fall or Spring shoulder seasons to enjoy warm weather while saving money and avoiding crowded roads, restaurants, and activities. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a New Bern vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday on the coast? Christmas, Thanksgiving, and New Years Eve are great times to gather with friends and family at the beach.
- Veterans and Active Duty Military members may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property owner if your vacationing group qualifies for a price reduction or discount.
- Booking websites usually offer their guests an option to purchase trip insurance. Trip insurance, which normally costs anywhere between 1% - 5% of the reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any missed trip time as a result of medical-related issues or weather, as well as hurricane evacuation costs, such as an unexpected hotel stay or additional gas expenses. Trip insurance can be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask the property owner for additional information.
- Find a copy of your local New Bern area magazine upon checking in. If your rental home doesn't have one, you can find them at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers. In addition to great local stories, travel guide magazines have discounts for local accommodations, tours and attractions.
Planning, selecting, and booking your prefect New Bern rental home:
- Start by having your group decide on a vacation week and a spending budget.
- Note the number beds and the configuration your group requires. Seabbatical with Water Views, Close to Downtown has 4 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms.
- Precise information regarding bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is often available online. If not, call the property owner before booking the vacation property. Remember that most listings specify maximum guest capacity, which frequently includes sofa beds.
- Do your family pets travel with you? Although a number of vacation homes allow pets or animals, guidelines and costs vary per property. Type of pet, size and breeds may be limited. Ask your host before booking, and study your agreement! Pet fees or charges applied to your invoice.
- If there's a certain New Bern beach you are enamored with, look for rentals that are either close by, or those that cater especially to your requirements.
- Proper accessibility can make or break a vacation for those with limited mobility. Confirm all necessary amenities are available before reserving a rental.
Tips for a great stay:
- Take a copy of the owner's phone number and entry/exit procedures for your rental home. We recommend storing the host's contact information in your smartphone.
- Hosts are there to help! Feel free to ask questions before, during, or after your stay.
- Keep your rental home locked while you're out! Don't let burglars ruin your vacation.
- Upon arrival, record any damages to the property and immediately contact the host. Keep records of all coorespondence.
- Respect the neighborhood. Frequently, adjacent homes are occupied by local residents. Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking regulations reduces conflict and allows everyone to enjoy their day.
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Locals can usually point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to order the best nachos, have a great night out, or the best spots for shopping?
- Upon check-out, complete a walk-through to confirm you did not leave anything behind. Check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden items. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Record a video to document the condition of the property.
- Did your family have a excellent vacation? Most rental home management companies make it easy for customers to provide feedback. If your property and/or property manager was fantastic, they would love to hear it. If anything was out of order and they failed to address it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make a note as part of your feedback.
