Strategies for getting the perfect New Bern rental experience:
Sticking to your budget:
- June, July, and August are high season in the New Bern area. Book your New Bern rental home in the Spring or Fall to enjoy warm weather while saving money and avoiding crowded roads, restaurants, and activities. Many vacationers use this method to find larger homes within budget, or to book a beach front rental that would otherwise be unavailable or unaffordable during the Summer months. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a New Bern vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday on the coast? Thanksgiving and Christmas are great times to gather with family and friends at your favorite beach.
- The earlier you can book a vacation rental, the easier your search will be. The best rental properties are reserved very early. Booking your rental property up to 12 months before your vacation dates is recommended. Holidays such as Christmas and Thanksgiving are excellent times to plan and reserve your vacation home.
- Property management companies sometimes offer rate reductions for active duty military and veterans. Ask your property manager if rate reductions are available for your group before you book.
- Property managers frequently offer their guests an option to obtain vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which generally will cost you between 1% - 5% of the stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for missed trip time as a result of medical-related emergencies or weather, as well as evacuation costs, such as an unexpected hotel stay or extra gasoline expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a bank account-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your host for more information.
- Find a copy of your local visitors guide when you check-in. If your rental home doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local shops and fuel stations. In addition to great information, visitors guide magazines have discounts for local tours, shops, and attractions.
How to select the best vacation home:
- Begin by selecting a vacation week and a maximum budget.
- Note the number bedrooms and the bed configuration your family needs. Great family vacation spot! Beach Access, Resort Pool, Playground and Linens! has 3 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our rentals search.
- Precise descriptions of bedrooms and bed types is almost always available on booking websites. If they are not listed, email or call the property management company before you book the rental. Note that most properties list maximum guest capacity, which typically includes sofa beds in living rooms. You will need to work out what is optimal for your vacation family.
- Looking for specific amenities? Most websites include amenity lists and search filters. Use these filters to your advantage to find the perfect rental home.
- Appropriate accessibility can make or break a vacation for the less-mobile. .
- Are you bringing the family pet? Many vacation homes allow animals, but guidelines and restrictions apply. Type of pet, size and breeds may be limited. Make sure to ask before booking, and study your agreement thoroughly! Extra fees or costs applied to your agreement.
Some things to know before you go:
- Be sure you get the host's phone number and check in/check out procedures for your rental home. We recommend storing the manager's information in your smartphone.
- Make a record of any issues with the rental upon arrival, and immediately e-mail them to the host. We especially recommend texts and e-mails, as they usually contain built-in time stamps that can be useful if damages are assessed.
- Ask questions. You may want instructions for a garage door opener, stereo or coffee maker. Contact your property manager. They are there to help! A brief text message prevents a lot of concerns.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like loud visitors bothering your quiet neighborhood. Practice the golden rule for best judgement. Happy residents may even recommend great local food and attractions you would've not otherwise known!
- Don't forget to... Ask a local! Locals can frequently point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to find the best seashells, have a great night out, or the best spots for BBQ?
- Protect the property owner (and your stuff!) by locking the rental when you are out, just like you would back home.
- When it's time to leave, take a walk-through to confirm you have not forget any personal items. Make sure to check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden treasure. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Please make sure to walk through the property a final time and scan for any damage. We advise inspecting the property with the host whenever possible. If the property manager isn't available, take photos and video of the property to record its condition.
- Remember to leave feedback! Hosts rely on good ratings to stimulate more bookings. They'll be much obliged for your feedback. Alternatively, if something wasn't right, other vacationers will will be grateful for your review find their best vacation home. Be fair with your review. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the property manager had any control over the issue, and if so, whether they responded expeditiously to remedy it.
