Tips and Tricks to get the optimal vacation home experience:

When to visit Beaufort & When to reserve a rental home:

  • The sooner you can reserve a vacation home, the easier your search will be. The most desirable properties are reserved early. Reserving your rental up to 12 months before your vacation is recommended. Holiday gatherings are excellent times to plan and reserve your rental property.
  • Summer months are the most expensive season in the New Bern area. Book your New Bern rental property in the Fall or Spring shoulder seasons to enjoy gorgeous weather while saving money and avoiding crowds.
  • Active Duty and veterans of the US Armed forces may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property owner or host whether your group qualifies for a price reduction.
  • Booking websites usually offer customers an option to obtain vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which normally will cost anywhere between 1% - 5% of the base reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for missed trip time as a result of medical-related issues or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation costs, such as an unanticipated hotel overnight or extra gasoline expenses. Trip insurance can be a a life-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your host for details.
  • Look for your local New Bern visitors guide magazine when you arrive at the rental property. If your rental doesn't have one, you can find them at local grocery stores and visitor centers. In addition to great articles, visitor guides have money saving offers on nearby accommodations, tours and attractions.

Planning and picking the bestrental:

  • First and foremost, have your group agree to date ranges and a budget.
  • Note the number beds and the configuration your family needs. Downtown home 1 block from waterfront with patio, front porches, streaming has 4 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our search.
  • Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed types is commonly accessible online. If you don't see them listed, reach out to the property management company before you reserve the rental. Note that most properties list maximum guest capacity, which typically includes sofa beds and bunks. You'll need to determine what bed configuration is best for your trip.
  • If your group is bringing pets, filter your search for a rental that allows animals. Make sure to ask for specifics on breed, size, and type requirements. Often, property managers require additional pet deposits and fees.
  • If there's a specific New Bern destination you long to visit, look for homes that are either nearby, or those that cater especially to your desires.
  • Proper accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for the less-mobile. .

Considerations for your stay:

  • Add the host's contact information to your phone. Print and take a copy of check in/check out procedures.
  • Property managers are great sources of help! Don't be shy to ask questions before, during, or after your stay.
  • Protect the owner (and your things!) by locking and securing the home while you are away, just like you would at home.
  • Document any issues with the property at check in, and immediately e-mail them to the host. We especially recommend e-mails and text messages, as they usually contain time stamps that can be useful if there is a dispute.
  • Be respectful. Often, nearby homes are occupied by permanent residents. Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking regulations can make a stay significantly more pleasurable.
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Residents can often help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to order the best nachos, have a great night out, or the best spots for bird watching?
  • Double-check every room of the rental property to make sure that you've packed all of your belongings at departure. Check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden belongings. Clean out the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Go through the property one final time and keep an eye out for damages to contents or the property itself. We recommend inspecting the property with the property manager whenever you can. If the property manager isn't available, remember to take video of the property to record its condition.
  • Did you have a excellent vacation? Many rental websites make it easy for travelers to provide reviews. If your rental and/or property management company was terrific, they would love to hear it. If anything was out of order and they failed to fix it within reason, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make it a point as part of your comments.
