Finding the best vacation home experience:

Sticking to your budget:

  • Book your vacation rental as early as possible. Rental schedules often open twelve months in advance (or in September just after Summertime ends). Many families book their Summer rental homes during Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years Eve gatherings. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
  • Booking a rental in Spring or Fall is our favorite way to save money on your vacation rental. Rental rates are lower, and you'll find a better selection of suitable properties. Many vacationers use this method to find larger homes within budget, or to reserve an oceanfront rental that would otherwise be unavailable or unaffordable during the Summer.
  • Owners sometimes offer discounts for active duty military and veterans. Remember to ask your property manager if special offers are available for your group before you book.
  • Property managers frequently offer guests an option to obtain vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which will generally cost anywhere between 1% - 5% of the booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any missed vacation time as a result of personal medical-related issues or weather disasters, as well as hurricane evacuation costs or charges, such as an unexpected hotel overnight or additional fuel expenses. Trip insurance might be a a life-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your property manager for additional information.
  • Often, property management companies and vacation rental houses supply New Bern area travel guide magazines that include money-saving deals, either offered directly by local businesses, or through a relationship with the property management company and the business itself. You can also find New Bern visitors guide and coupon books at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers.

Choosing the perfect rental:

  • Start by having your family decide on a vacation week and a budget.
  • Note the number bedrooms and the configuration your family needs. Dog-friendly coastal retreat with games, W\/D, & patio - walk to the beach has 2 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our New Bern rental home search.
  • Precise descriptions of bedrooms and bed counts is often available on booking websites. If they are not listed, call the property owner before booking the vacation property. Remember that most listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which typically includes pull-out couches and bunk beds. You will need to determine what configuration is right for your vacation family.
  • If your group is vacationing with pets, you will need a property that allows animals. Make sure to ask for information on breed, size, and type restrictions. Note that some property owners charge additional pet fees.
  • If there's an individual New Bern attraction you are enamored with, keep an eye out for rentals that are either near by, or those that cater to your needs.
  • Appropriate accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for persons with disabilities. Make certain to inquire about specialized equipment and wheel chair accessibility.

Know before you go:

  • Take a copy of the property manager's contact number and arrival/departure procedures for your rental. Put the host's information in your smartphone and wallet.
  • Ask questions. You may want instructions for a hot tub, elevator or kitchen appliance. Contact your property manager. They are there to help! A brief phone call prevents a lot of concerns.
  • Keep your rental home locked while you are out! Don't let crooks spoil your family vacation.
  • To ensure that no damages are attributed to your stay, inspect for any problem areas when you arrive. E-mail the host right away to report your findings. If there is a dispute, having the recorded problems and contact attempts will be very helpful.
  • Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like loud vacationers bothering your peaceful neighborhood. Employ the golden rule for best judgement. Happy residents may even recommend great local food and scenic spots you would've not otherwise known about!
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Local residents can often point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to spend a rainy day, have a great night out, or the best spots for fine dining?
  • At departure, complete a final walk-through to make sure you have not forget any personal items. Remember to check garages, decks, and cabinets for hidden belongings. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Inspect the property a final time and look for damages to contents or the property itself. We advise walking through with the property manager whenever possible. If the host isn't available, ensure that you take photographs of the property to record its condition at check-out.
  • Leave a review! Property managers rely on great reviews to propel more bookings. They'll be thankful for your review. Alternatively, if something went wrong, other families will appreciate that you share your experience find their best rental home. Remember to be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the property manager had any control over the issue, and if so, whether they responded expeditiously to fix it.
