Tips and Tricks to get the best rental home experience:
Get the most from your rental budget:
- Reserve your vacation home as soon as possible. Rental schedules usually become available twelve months in advance (or in September just after Summer ends). Many families book their Summer rental homes during holiday get-togethers. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
- June, July, and August are the most expensive months along the coast of NC. Reserve your New Bern rental property in Spring or Fall to enjoy warm weather while saving money and avoiding crowds.
- Some hosts offer rate reductions for active duty military and veterans. Ask your property manager if special discounts are available for your family.
- Management companies and individual rental owners frequently offer renters an option to purchase trip insurance. Trip insurance, which normally costs 1% - 5% of the stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for missed time as a result of personal medical-related issues or weather disasters, as well as evacuation charges, such as an unanticipated hotel or extra fuel expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a welcome relief if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your host for more information.
- Many management companies supply New Bern area travel guides which often include coupons, either offered independently by local businesses, or by way of a relationship with the management company and the business itself. You can also find visitors guide and coupon books at local shops and grocery stores.
Use filters to narrow your search:
- Begin by choosing vacation dates and a max budget.
- Decide how many beds and the configuration your family requires. Coastal home near the ocean with covered porches & W/D has 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our rental home search.
- Precise information about bedrooms and bed counts is regularly available on booking websites. If not, call the property management company before you reserve the vacation home. Remember that most properties list maximum guest capacity, which oftentimes includes pull-out couches and bunk beds.
- Do your family pets travel with you? Many vacation homes allow animals, but guidelines and restrictions apply. Allowable pet type, breed, and size are often limited. Ask your property manager before booking, and study your agreement thoroughly! Pet fees or charges applied to your invoice.
- If there's an individual New Bern beach you simply love, look for homes that are either nearby, or those that cater to your desires.
- Appropriate accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for guests that require the use of a wheelchair. Remember to confirm all necessary amenities are available before booking
Some things to know before you go:
- Add the host's contact information to your phone. Take a copy of check in/check out procedures.
- Hosts are there to help! Feel free to ask questions during your stay.
- Lock your rental while you are out and about. Protect your property!
- During check-in, make note of any damages to the rental property and immediately contact the owner. Keep records of all correspondence just in case a dispute arises.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like disagreeable vacationers disrupting your peaceful home. Apply the golden rule for common sense. Happy residents may even recommend great restaurants and places you would have not otherwise known!
- Don't forget to... Ask a local! Local residents can typically point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to book the best tours, have a great night out, or the best spots for crabbing?
- Re-check every room of the vacation property to make sure that you've packed all personal items on check-out day. Check garages, decks, and cabinets for hidden belongings. Clean out the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Go through the rental a final time and look for any damage. We recommend walking through with the host whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the property manager isn't available, take pictures of the rental to record its condition.
- Remember to leave feedback! Hosts rely on excellent reviews to stimulate new bookings. They'll be much obliged for your review. Alternatively, if something wasn't right, other vacationers will appreciate that you share your feedback find their best vacation home. Remember to be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the property manager had any control over the issue, and if so, whether they responded quickly to fix it.
