Emerald Isle rental booking tips and tricks:

How to get the best rental home value:

  • The sooner your group can book a rental home, the easier your search will be. The most desirable vacation rentals are reserved early. Reserving your rental home up to 12 months before your travel dates is recommended. Winter holidays are excellent times to search for and reserve your rental home.
  • June, July, and August are the most expensive months along the coast of NC. To find the best value, change your trip dates to the Spring or Fall months. May, September, and even October offer warmer weather, , and greatly reduced traffic. Many vacationers use this strategy to find larger homes within budget, or to book an oceanfront rental that would otherwise be unavailable during the Summer. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a New Bern vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation on the coast? Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years are great times to gather with friends and family at your favorite beach.
  • Veterans and Active Duty Military members may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property manager whether your family qualifies for a price reduction or discount.
  • Management companies and individual rental owners often offer their guests an option to purchase vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which normally costs 1% - 5% of the reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for missed days as a result of personal medical-related emergencies or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional evacuation costs, such as an unexpected hotel overnight or additional gasoline expenses. Trip insurance can be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your property manager for specifics.
  • Look for your local New Bern visitors guide when you check-in. If your rental home doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local shops and visitor centers. In addition to great articles, travel guides contain deals for nearby accommodations, restaurants and tours.

Make a plan and choose a perfect New Bern vacation home:

  • Choose a designated group leader, choose your vacation dates, and choose a budget.
  • Decide how many beds and the bed configuration your family needs. Blue Heron East, Oceanfront Duplex in Emerald Isle, NC! has 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms.
  • Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is generally accessible on booking pages. If you don't see them listed, call the host before you reserve the vacation property. Remember that most listings specify the max. guest capacity, which typically includes sofa beds in living rooms. You will need to establish what is right for your vacation group.
  • If your group is bringing pets, search for a pet-friendly rental. Get information on breed, weight, and type requirements. Often, property managers charge pet deposits and fees.
  • If there's an individual New Bern destination you crave, browse homes that are either close by, or those that cater especially to your requirements.
  • Suitable accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for guests with disabilities. Confirm all necessary amenities are available before reserving a rental.

Tips to have a smooth stay:

  • Get the owner's contact number and check in/check out procedures for your rental. We recommend storing the host's contact information in your smartphone and wallet.
  • Ask questions. You may need instructions for a hot tub, A/V setup or washer/dryer. Contact your host. They are there to help! A brief phone call can prevent a lot of difficulties.
  • Lock your rental home while you're out. Protect your property!
  • Upon check-in, note any issues with the rental property and immediately alert the owner. Record all coorespondence.
  • Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like loud vacationers bothering your peaceful home life. Apply the golden rule for best judgement. If they like you, locals might even recommend great local food and scenic spots you would've not otherwise known!
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Locals can typically help. Who better to ask where to book the best tours, have a great night out, or the best spots for bird watching?
  • Don't leave anything behind! Before departing, take a walk through the property to reconfirm you've collected everything. Check dressers, closets, and bathrooms for hidden treasure. Clean out the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Inspect the rental a final time and keep an eye out for damage. We advise inspecting the property with the property manager whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the manager is not available, remember to take photos and video of the rental to record its condition.
  • Did your group have a great time? Many rental management companies make it easy for customers to provide reviews. If your rental property and/or property manager was terrific, they would love to hear about it. If anything was out of order and they failed to address it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make it a point as part of your comments.
