Emerald Isle rental property booking tips:

Getting the most from your rental budget:

  • The sooner you can book a vacation home, the easier your search will be. The best properties are reserved early. Booking your vacation property six - twelve months before your vacation is recommended. Holidays such as Christmas and Thanksgiving are excellent times to plan and reserve your rental.
  • To get the best value, try changing your family's New Bern vacation week to the Spring or Fall seasons. May, September, and even October offer warm weather, , and greatly reduced traffic.
  • Some property management companies offer discounts for veterans and active duty military. Ask your host or property manager if rate reductions are available for your family.
  • Booking websites typically offer customers an option to obtain trip insurance. Trip insurance, which will generally cost between 1% - 5% of the base booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for missed trip time as a result of medical-related issues or weather disasters, as well as hurricane evacuation charges, such as an unexpected hotel stay or additional gasoline expenses. Trip insurance might be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your property manager for additional information.
  • Often, rental management companies supply New Bern area visitor guide magazines that include coupons, either offered independently by local businesses, or by way of a partnership between the property management company and the business itself. You can also find visitors guide and coupon books at local shops and grocery stores.

Planning and picking a perfect New Bern rental:

  • First, have your group agree to the best dates and a budget.
  • Note the number bedrooms and the configuration you need. “A Swell Life” 3 Bed\/3 Bath, Oceanfront Condo, Unit 1105 Queens Court has 4 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms.
  • Precise descriptions of bedrooms and bed types is regularly available on booking pages. If you don't see them listed, contact the property manager before you reserve your home. Remember that most listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which usually includes sofa beds and bunks.
  • Some properties allow pets, but some do not. Acceptable types of family pet, size and breeds may be restricted, and added fees may apply. Ask the property manager about pets before booking.
  • Does your group require particular amenities? Most rental websites include amenity lists and search filters.
  • Suitable accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for persons with disabilities. Confirm all necessary amenities are available and included before reserving a rental.

More considerations for your visit:

  • Add the property manager's contact information to your phone. Take a copy of arrival/departure procedures.
  • Ask questions. You may need instructions for a fireplace, intercom or thermostat. Contact your owner. They are there to help! A brief phone call prevents lots of problems.
  • Protect the owner (and your things!) by keeping the rental locked up when you are out, just like you would at home.
  • Make a record of any damages to the rental during check in, and immediately send them to the property manager. We especially recommend e-mails and text messages, as they usually contain time stamps that can be very helpful if a dispute arises.
  • Don't forget to respect your neighbors. Often times, adjacent homes are filled by permanent residents. Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking policies reduces conflict and allows everyone to enjoy their day.
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Residents can frequently point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to find the best seashells, have a great night out, or the best spots for fine dining?
  • Don't leave anything behind! Just before you drive away, walk through the rental property to confirm you've collected everything. Check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden items. Clean out the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Document the condition of the property at check-out. We recommend taking a video during your final walk-through.
  • Did you have a great time? Many rental managers make it easy for clients to provide comments. If your rental and/or property manager was great, they will likely appreciate your kind words. If anything was out of order and they failed to address it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make it a point as part of your comments.
